I want to pick up a camera, but not sure what set up to go with and what kind of camera to get. Should I run with a barrel cam or an helmet cam? What is the difference? Is there any benefits with any?

Also which camera should I pick up? I been looking at contour, do I need the waterproof camera? What are some other recorders and their spec?

Is there anything important I should know with playing with a recorder?

Thanks for the help

Personally I like the Drift Ghost camera for multiple reasons:

PROS:
- Mounts great on a helmet
- Allows you to see what you are shooting LCD screen
- Pretty small profile
- Shoots 1080p HD quality video
- Wrist activated start/stop for easy usage

CONS:
- Larger than the contour
- Doesn't barrel mount as nicely as the contour
- Expensive

Remember to always get the ruggedized version of any camera (i.e. contour roam). I would watch videos on all of these before purchasing one. I personally don't like barrel cameras because they are noisy and I don't like the "action" it films. However, it is easier to see who you are shooting. Helmet cams are better for people to view but it quite difficult to see what you are shooting at sometimes.

Either mount is fine, the new contours come with 2 mounts that can be used for helmet cams, but if you want to use a barrel mount buy the nummech contour mount, which was manufactured by a paintball enginneer specifically for barrels and this camera. The contour handle mount slips and slides everywhere and is a pain in the case to get it to stay in place.

I do prefer helmet cams for woodsball, and barrel cams for speedball. Mostly because in woodsball I'm not shooting nearly as much in woodsball than in speedball.

Contours are "Waterproof" up to a depth of 1 meter of water, without the need for a water proof case

Only other recorders that are "as useful" are GoPros, which I do not prefer because you need a water proof case or if it gets wet you're basically fucked. They are also very bulky and would logically only be used as a barrel cam

How is the R7? Would you guys recommend both a helmet cam and a barrel cam set up? Also would you recommend to buy used or brand new?

I have the new GoPro hero 3 and that works great! Either on your barrel or as a head cam.

It's good but the battery and mic suck

Do you guys think it would be nice to run a barrel cam and a helmet cam at the same time?
