Police Investigate Paintball Car Chase That Leaves One Dead

http://www.msnbc.msn...#storyContinued

Quote

CORPUS CHRISTI - A weekend traffic accident has left a 24-year-old Alice man dead and a suspect charged with intoxication manslaughter.

On Sunday, police said a group of teens were shooting at cars along Ocean Drive with paintballs. It eventually turned into a high speed chase that ended when the two SUV's crashed.

A mangled fence gives some people an idea of just how fast the two cars where going down Ocean Drive when they collided; one SUV hit the fence and another hit a palm tree in the median.

The mangled aftermath is what Corpus Christi police are calling horseplay gone wrong.

Officers said three teenage boys in a white Yukon shot paintballs at a Bronco cruising down Ocean Drive. The driver of the Bronco, 23-year-old Joshua Black, went after the paintballers when they hit his SUV.

It was a pursuit police said escalated into a high speed chase topping more than 80 miles an hour.

It ended at Ropes and Ocean Drive when the two SUVs collided and the Bronco ran into a palm tree, killing 24-year-old Aaron Rodriguez who was sitting in the front passenger seat and it sent the backseat passenger, 17-year-old Ian McCall to the hospital with broken bones.

CCPD officers arrested Black for intoxication manslaughter.

"The responding officer could smell alcohol on the driver," an officer said.

As for the teens in the Yukon, they crashed through a residential fence.

Police said 17-year-olds, Benjamin Moreno, Joseph Skinner and Zachary McCandles, only had minor injuries.

At this point, officers said the men involved didn't know each other.

"Right now, from what we can tell [they didn't know each other.] Maybe, [it was] a random incident," an officer said.

It was a random act that turned deadly, and it is a lesson police said everyone should learn from.

"It's a senseless act and it can result in something as serious as this. We have a death here that probably should not have [happened] and it's senseless that it happened in the first place," the officer continued.

Officers said Black could face more charges if it's determined that he intentionally hit the Yukon with his SUV.

If that is the case, he could be charged with aggravated assault.

Also, currently, all three in the Yukon were released at the scene and they have not been charged with any crime. On Tuesday, authorities will be meeting to discuss whether or not additional charges will be filed against Black.

Investigators will also determine if charges will be filed against the teenagers involved with the incident.

Sounds like the kids have not been charged, were released on scene, which I find odd. Didn't they cause the entire situation to happen? What's wrong with these kids now a days

I read that news the other night and I first thought that someone was actually shot to death.

Wow I'm surprised the kids did not get charged with anything at all.

Hopefully they learned their lesson

WTF, those little shits started it by shooting at the other vehicle and they get to walk away. That's complete bullshit. They need to be charged with property damage, assault, or something. I know if they had shot at me, I’d have run the little bastards off the road and then beat the living shit out of them. Well, probably not, but that's what I'd want to do.

I don't see why they should get away. In all technicality the death was the driver of the other cars fault, chasing someone in a car is not going to solve anything he should have known better. But without the kids being idiots none of it would have happened in the first place.
95% of all teens would go into a panic if the Jonas brothers were on a 100 foot building about to jump. copy and paste this if you are one of the 5% who brought popcorn and invited friends while yelling "JUMP BITCH JUMP!"

I agree, I am willing to bet that they shot at the vehicle with a wal-mart gn and have never paintballed in their life. So why would they label them as paintballers? I can see them calling them immature, punks, or something like that but not paintballers. Media these days....

I agree calling someone that fires a paintball gun a paintballer is like calling someone with a gun a marksman. As we saw here it was just some punk. I hate to see someone die and this whole media thing explode, but it was their fault to begin with and I can't believe they didn't recieve any charges. Its would be like starting a bar fight, getting your butt kicked, and walking away scotch free while the other guy is arrested. It just doesn't make sense. Why do some people find it necessary to vandalise property?

For everyone who's saying "at least one of them died," no, the kids who shot the paintballs only suffered minor injuries. The car that was chasing them had three people in it as well, and it was one of them that died.

Nobody deserved to fucking die. Stupid teenagers shot at a couple drunk guys, and people got killed and hurt. None of them should have been on the road.

Goddamn, I get sick and tired of reading all these posts from people saying "If somebody shot at me with a paintball gun, I'd go break their neck!" Shut the fuck up. No, you wouldn't. You sure as Hell shouldn't. Harassment does NOT necessitate MURDER. Fuck. And you people have the balls to call them immature and reckless? Look in the damned mirror. You talk about what a poor image they give the paintball community? How would you like a couple of these posts to be quoted in the paper? How would that help our community?

He's not going to take away hand guns, they have been saying that since obama started his campaign, its propaganda.

Nice post, Promethean.

I get the impression that the newscaster hates paintball. At the beginning of the video, she says, "and it was all started...by a paintball gun". No. it was all started by a bunch of idiots using paintball guns. But this type of objectification has been seen before. Unfortunately, lawmakers tend to ignore the human element because its not something they can legislate. They CAN, however, legislate the purchase, ownership, and use of paintball guns.

How did those kids POSSIBLY get away without any charges. How about reckless driving, for a start?
