Yeah, same... I used floppies all throughout my childhood. I was still rocking those big flat ones (5.5 inch? Cant remember exactly) when I got my first computer.

Edit: 5.25 inch, had to look it up. I dont recall ever using 8 inch, though.

Damn Nobben is making me feel old and I'm probably only a year or two older then him. I remember taking projects to school on floppy drives because usb memory cards either hadn't been invented or were extremely rare.

In case anybody needs to know what a floppy disk looks like.

That is a 3.5inch floppy, though. The most modern of the floppies.

Don't remember floppy-disks? I remember when we used regular casette tapes :D
As a matter of fact.. I get a fuzzy warm feeling just thinking about the commodore 64 days.. The waiting, the colorspashing on the tv-screen... And I STILL to this day, LOVE 8bit music. GOOD TIMES.

I used a 5.25 inch a few times, but still, some people don't even know what they are. When I have children they probably won't know what CDs are.

The microcontroller is the most expensive... About 40 or so.. The rest is stuff I had laying around..
you'll need:

-Programmable Microcontroller
-Floppy-ribbon-cable/ or cat5 leads.
-Floppy-drives(preferably 8 of them)
-Some breadboard-cables
-A powersupply from a computer to Power the drives
-A computer to run the midi files through
-Serial/Com to USB package driver
-Midi files.
-Patience to get everything to do what you want.

All in all I spent 40 on this..

The smells like team spirit one is amazing, actually all of them are.

Kinda wish youd stop moving the camera though, not because i dont want to see it, it's juts that the sound gets louder and quiet quickly :P perhaps mute the video overlay it with a balanced recording of the floppy's?

And BAM.. I feel old when I meet people that haven't even heard of floppydrives...

I'm building a 8x array over the weekend :)

or maybe he is so old he still doesn't have a dedicated hard drive yet, not everyone is loaded enough to drop 800 dollars on a 20 mb drive, never going to use that much storage in your life anyway.

was considering making / joining a hackerspace but im not as good with hardware as i would like to believe. looking for a project or two over the summer though.

Now, you must buy an Axon 2, hook up 58 floppy drives, heh heh heh.

Or multiplex...

On the other side, pretty cool, was the software written by you, or did another person write it?
