hey, how do you know when your a techie?
I got one,
when a girl calls you in the middle of the night, no, not for that, its cause she changed a group photo on Facebook to something embarrassing and doesn't know how to change it back.
or, your present to family/friends for Christmas is tech support.
what do you think? any more?

The 1st one isnt being a techie, it's being computer literate.

You know you're a true techie when somebody calls a monitor a computer and you lecture them on something that eventually turns into chipset and CPU architectures and their compatibility with programming architectures and max bandwidths

Or when somebody says their computer is broken and super slow and you tell them you lost technological respect because they have so much bloatware it makes a hippopotamus say "DAAAAAAYYYYYYYUUUUUMMMM!!!"

I might put the first one up as a techie depending on the situation of course. If you can decipher the error then yes, if it is "how do I select printer A?" or "How do I get to folder XXX?" then I would put you as computer literate.

I might put the second one as neighbors being lazy/cheap/thoughtful and giving you experience. One of those three but IT specialists are in high demand and don't work for free either so getting in an appointment or taking it in is just not an option.

Ah yeah, that's a good one too. Did that to one of my old Computer Science teachers. She didn't figure it out until 4 hours later. Then she called me into the office to bitch at me. Apparently I shouldn't have left a text file among the hidden icons titled "Don't read me" with the contents "Hope you didn't have anything important for us today, Mrs Wallace. -Pettijohn"

When I go to the computer/gadget store and seem to know more about the products being sold and how they work than the people that work at said store. Or when I fix someone's computer problem after they explained to me that they already saw a techie before seeing me.

It's extremely funny when you walk into a computer store with two Taiwanese people who own and run it who sell cheap shit hardware, try to sell you a combo of a full ATX motherboard and baby ATX case, and say that it's illegal to sell a retail packaged copy of windows 7.

The geek squad just uses their own software to "diagnose" the problem. Ive been looking for a job and i refuse to apply at best buy because of their lack of tech support.
