What is your budget and kind of photography you want to do/get into? Ebay and Craigslist will be your friend on this as there are plenty of used cameras out there along with lenses. There are going to be plenty of older cameras available for cheap (i.e. canon d20s are going for less than $200 on Ebay and the 18-55 kit lens is going for ~80, or the 50mm 1.8 is roughly the same), you will just have to do a little research. Look on a camera website such as B+H photo or even amazon to see what fits your price range than I'd look at this website to give you a good in depth review of the strengths and weaknesses of each camera: http://www.dpreview.com/

Sony NEX5 isn't a DSLR

The t1i should be good enough though.

I own the Nikon D50, Its worth about 200 USD with the kit lens (bandh usually have them) I do photography as just a fun hobby so the 6 megapixels is really no issue for me. Here is my latest picture to give you an idea of picture quality.

Best of luck on your search :)

Learn to use your camera and think outside the box and you'll get great photos. Chris is a great example of this, as you can see above :)

I was talking to my aunt, who works in advertising, and she says unless you're blowing up pictures to be billboard size, you don't need a lot of megapixels. Granted, I don't know much about cameras, but I think an older DSLR would be fine for normal photography.

Billboard images don't even have to be sharp, since they're viewed at a great distance.

Anything over 10 megapixels is usually overkill unless you're doing big, high quality prints.

That gives you an idea of what a 10 megapixel image can do when printed at 360dpi...which is about magazine quality.

more info about megapixels there.
