The IOC has lost it's friggin mind ! They have preliminarily voted to exclude wrestling as a sport in the 2020 olympics ! That's ludicrous ! Wrestling is the oldest organized sport in recorded history, and probably before that. Hell there are heiroglyphs and cave pictures of wrestling. The only other sport maybe older would be running, and / or swimming ? But really, how can they take that shit away and still have rythym gymnastics and synchronized swimming .... a millenia from now, people will look back at the 2020 olympics and just say .... "WOW ... REALLY" ?

I wrestled a bit in junior and high school.. Personally I dislike the sport (too sweaty and gross) but it is THE hardest and most physically demanding sport I ever played. I too am surprised and saddened.

I didn't wrestle and I'm not really much of a fan, except when it's on the olympics, but I'm amazed by this decision. Ditto to the rhythmic gymnastics point.

Stop worrying about how you look, and start worrying about how you play. Get out on the field and play paintball the best you can, not stand at home in front of a mirror trying to figure out if your jersey matches your eyes.

It shouldnt be taken out. Im not a wrestler but it is a legit sport, and one of the most physically demanding. Stupid stuff like horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc. should be removed instead of a centuries old sport.

I wonder what the ancient Greeks would have thought about this decision... Talk about shitting all over the roots of the event.

Wrestling is awesome, one of the hardest sports I have ever played. I have no clue why they would get rid of this and keep in some of the other bullshit events.

I personally think that they should cut out some of the more "judging" or "referee" based sports. This is not because they aren't physically demanding, but humans are not machines and may not see to everything fairly. From a little bit of misjudgment to full on bribing, I think Olympic sports should stick to placed events that involve finish lines. Like swimming and track that have finish lines. This is not calling into question again if the sport is physically or mentally stressful, but pointing out the possibility of human error. It is much harder to cheat when everyone sees a frame by frame replay of people crossing the finish line. Refs act in the moment, and usually, what they say goes.

i can kinda see what you're sayin, .... but that would only be track & field events, and swimming ... i think everything else has judges, refs, whatever ... not much of an olympics

i think they want to add a new sport so they are going to get rid of one ... but i don't know why they don't just add one without deleting one ... not all of these sports were in the original olympics anyway, so just another one if thats what they want to do.

But also some of the other sports that are also being thought of such as all this rythmic ribbon crap involve jugdes, same with horseback. Plenty of sports involve refs in the olympics, why would one of the oldest sports to exist be an exception?

Back on topic,

This is ridiculous, it's an ancient sport that perfectly fits in the olypmics. An olympic athlete is supposed to be pushed to the limits to succeed on a world wide level. It's almost as bad as taking running out because of the fact that you're taking away a heritage from the olympics compared to other sports. There's a reason it's lasted so long, because it's an amazing sport.

I guess you've never seen or done competitve sailing or rowing?
Just remember that you row faster than you run, because I don't know anyone that can run 2KM in 5 and 1/2 minutes.
