Sad thing is, I saw something similar happen

Not to mention getting to listen in on about 20 minutes of his moronic interview while I was waiting to talk to the Captain about the employment app I was putting in for my trade.

When I take RAP (Recruiter's Assistant Program) in a couple months, if I hear a guy coming in asking about Sentry Guns, EMPs, and any other video game bullshit, I'm gonna lose it.

I don't see how that relates but it's a true story
All about your debt and if you can pay it, It's all about pain and who's gonna make it

And I'll probably be an NCO and, God forbid, their supervisor by the time this happens.

Edit: Just thought of some good news though. They'll probably end up trying to join the "uber-badass and super coolio" Marine Corps over the Air Force. I'm still ok for the most part.

Yep, it's stress-induced. We had a guy soil his whole service uniform because of it in my basic.

You mean showering?
We did twice every day. 30 seconds in the morning, and a leisurely 1 minute at night.
Still never helped the smell... nor prevented me from getting that rash

Basic for me out of 60 in my platoon we had about 3 completely useless people, another 12 or so who struggled. Of those who struggled half overcame, 3 washed out and 3 made it by the skin of their teeth. For the most part I'd say 2/3 of my platoon at least were completely capable and professional individuals who would succeed in the civilian world and who will succeed and advance in ranks and excel in the future with the CF. We of course have a much smaller demand for people, a typical year maybe 500-1000 people will be recruited for the reg force non-commissioned side and they're particular about who they recruit for certain trades. You need to be sharp to be a technician, if the selection process doesn't weed you out basic will, if basic doesn't your trades training will.
There is quite a bit of incentive to join here too, we have a good pension and benefits and we're the best paid military in the world, they have to compete with what these trades would pay civilian side so the wages are good. A corporal in most trades his first year in the rank makes 53k a year, after 4 years if he isn't promoted 55k, Spec pay trades, mostly technicians make 60k a year and cap out at about 64k if they go without promotion so the military is appealing to a lot of people as long as they're not ill informed, SOOO many think you join the military and you'll be humping a ruck, carrying a rifle and shitting in a hole. They don't realize that for a lot of the tech trades it's basically a civilian job in a uniform with certain things that just need to be done a certain way.

Use of cover, movement under fire, teamwork, weapon handling, prioritizing threats, etc. Video games, while giving many children a false view of the military and what war is like, is teaching every single person what it would be like to hold that weapon. Think about how often you see the reload animation for an M16, or how often you sight in on someone with a SCAR. You put a weapon in someones hands that they are familiar with from a game, they will learn it much faster.
They will also know that you have to hide behind something more solid than a wooden pallet to be protected, or that you shouldn't run into the open when being fired upon. They will know to throw a flashbang or smoke to disorient the enemy. They will know that the guy attacking you from behind the door is more important to take care of than the guy all the way across the house whenever you breech a door.
Not to mention the fact that all of these kids will be so desensitized to violence and death that for a few minutes, their gamer born instincts will kick in when faced with opposition, and have no hesitation to aiming and firing on another man.
There are reasons why the US Army released "Americas Army" for recruiting purposes. There is a reason why the Chinese army trains their soldiers with games. There is a reason why Taliban insurgents get their hands on our games to study what our movements would look like. Games are without a doubt forging potential soldiers. The fact that they are becoming so much more realistic in certain areas will only further blur the line between in game play, and actually being in combat.
If I had known that about the Canadian Army, I would have immigrated there before enlisting. 29k per year is chump change in comparison to that.
