Well, I'm already into media production, but I don't have a DSLR, I just take cell phone pictures, or borrow a friend's mini DSLR.

But, the 10D came to mind, seeing as they can be attained for rather cheap, and right around the price my dad told me I could get something for a graduation present ($200)

So my question, what should I know (if anything) about a DSLR? I'm no camera noob, in the video world anyways. I own a little Canon Vixia HF R20 for recording random things, and use a JVC HM-100 for other things.

Thanks.

I had a 10D and I used it as my primary camera.

www.joshunruh.com All the shots on my site have been taken with a 10D.

It's a great camera. You could drive nails with the body, it's really tough.

Get that body, a 50 f1.8, and you'll have a great starting out camera.

I suppose if you wanted too. I find that method cumbersome. I just take out my card and use a card adapter. I have a PCMCIA(PC Card) adapter and a USB adapter.

I think I have a Kingston to like, every card ever USB adapter somewhere. So that may prove useful.

I have a universal adapter that I ordered that didn't fit CF cards, so I had to buy another one :D

Well, I'll have to find it to check. How much is a decent sized CF card? Like 4+ gigs.

yep, as far as i know, the 10D is still a great camera.
it is getting old though, so it might possibly start to show its age at some point, but for a new user, you should get tons of use out of it.

my only suggestion would be to learn how many shutter activations are on the body. keep in mind shutters do burn out over time.

One word: D70.

Just letting you know, Canon has some of the best video cameras in the world. And their DSLRs have had the lead in video for quite some time now. Especially their affordable DSLRs.
But video and photo are two different things so you might to get the same perfoemance in photo as in video with a Canon.
The thing is, Canon is a brilliant brand with great cameras, so you do get top level performance for the price.

But with Nikon you get over the top performance.

I've still got my 10d, though I rarely shoot any photos at all these days. Too many other hobbies and not enough time or motivation to snap pictures.
