Welcome to the mech Ion club! Simply put, we are a gathering of great minds who've seen fit to retrofit our Ions with a mechanical valve, replacing any electronic components in our guns, thus making them 10x more awesome.

There is a kit available. It's a valve, bracket, and the necessary hoses. I'd post a link, but it's an MCB sale thread, so that goes against BST rules.

Just put up a "WTB broken Ions" thread. I'm sure there are tons of people who've got Ions with bad boards, or just Ions they don't use and don't want to go through the hassle of putting up on the BST.

Just make sure the Ion is mechanically sound though.

Usually, just leaks. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem, but the stock Ion reg is a PITA to take apart, since you need special tools to do so. Other than that, they're fairly durable designs.

Yeah, only one grip screw is necessary. From what I've seen, the set screw on the bracket is to keep the bracket from rotating, and the grip screw is what anchors it in place.

I only use the set screw that's in the bracket and I've never had a problem with it moving at all.
