My little brother is a wiper. We play frequently, mostly outlaw, which makes an honor system very important. However, lately he has been refusing to call himself out when hit. When I "reffed" one of our outlaw games (I'm by no means qualified to be a ref, but I figure someone needs to be around who isn't playing to keep things from getting out of hand) he took several hits to the mask at various points throughout the game and ignored my requests for him to check himself. I confronted him over it later, but he insisted his stark white profits were covered in spray, not the remnants of a clean break.

Part of me hopes it's just him being unable to judge what a break looks like when you check it with your hand. I have hopes that using a thicker fill paint than the infinity we normally shoot could help, but when we recently played airball at a local field that uses graffiti he got into an argument with a ref over the same issue.

My brother loves the game, but I don't want him to be "That Wiping Asshole" that everybody seems to know. Please give some ideas on how to deal with this, or at least convince me not to care about it.

That's the thing though, part of me thinks it's unintentional on his part. He's not so much wiping as he is just not knowing he's hit. But that just might be my naivete.

He seems to be playing more to win. If it is anything except speedball, you should be playing for fun, not for complete victory.

In that case, how can I go about changing this behaviour in a mature manner? I don't want to "shit in his mask" or "beat the shit out of him".

Really your only best option I can see is to keep forcing the subject onto him. Keep calling him out when you see him hit in games. Be a little bit forcefull to him.

how about you tell him that you won't bring him along or let him play the next time if you catch him cheating, that way you go have fun and he sees you when you come back?

video or picture evidence would be best if he continues to deny he is hit.
Other than that, all you really can to is call him out every time.

Stop shooting him in the mask and shoot him where it hurts: the ribs, underarms, fingers, etc. If you do shoot him in the mask, make sure to get his lens directly. If you can't see, you're clearly out. Keep calling him out on it and if he doesn't stop, just start shooting him 2-3 extra times. If 2-3 extra love taps aren't enough, make it 4-6. Eventually he'll get the message.

my logic on "wipers" is simple

If the first break on them isn't enough to get them out, shoot them some more

One poor guy who wiped a couple of my hits one time was in snake corner. He had no clue I had bunkered the last dorito player and I ran up the field. He was looking down the tape, and never saw me run up to his "home" bunker". He was completely and 100% exposed to me, I saw his entire left side of his body. I made sure I had a full hopper, and as I continued to shoot him, I made sure to keep saying "Get out cheater!!! (puff puff puff puff) get out cheater!!!! (puff puff puff puff puff) Cheater get out!!! Get our cheater!!!! (puff puff puff puff)"

He got the point :-)

If he doesn't want to play the part of the game, that says "when you get hit with a paintball, you get out", then you don't have to play the part of the game that says "When you see the ball break on someone, stop shooting"

If he wants to throw the rulebook out of the window, you can easily do the same

3.watch him get hit and not cheat

I follow the same principle as Mike.

If you wipe, you're getting lit the fuck up until you can't stand the pain. I've done it a few times in my career, Dude wipes and gets a full loader into the back while I scream in German.

Works wonders.

I'm thinking the screaming in German might work even without shooting a full hopper into the person. Screaming in German can be quite intimidating.
