I'm buying this soon along with this monitor. My friend has this same thing and uses an astro mixamp, does anybody know if a mix amp is needed? They cost $130 so I'd like to not buy it if I don't have to. And this for xbox as well. Thanks

I suggest the Steelseries 7xb, you do not need a mixamp.

I have it, and the only downside is that you need to buy a separate hdmi adapter if you want to use it with your xbox with an hd tv. Also the batter only lasts 10 hours. Just go buy 8 rechargeable AAA batteries and the charging station, and you are setPosted Image

way to expensive. I tried on the siberia's and they feel really nice, nice sound quality and mlg players use it so it must be amazing :dodgy: but really I like them.

You don't need a mixamp, unless you're a huge audiophile.

You don't need a mixamp with any Steelseries headsets. I personally love the Siberia V1's.

UH What lol astro mixamp is what makes the headset sound good it gives them the surround sound feeling... I have the mlg a40 set and i've used steel series they're very close but I highly recommend getting a mixamp if you're gonna spend the money for a nice headset

...... The surround feature is a secondary feature.
it doesn't do much for actual sound quality, its just perceived sound.. it may sound better, but not technically higher in quality...

The major part of the Astro headsets that make them a bit more worth it, is pretty much the mix amp..As headphones, they arent super great, they work fine, better then pretty much the whole Skullcandy line Posted Image ..you be better off getting the mix amp and a good quality pair of headphones.. Senns, Sony, what ever floats your boat.. and use those together. You'd get some very nice sound from those. I do tah twith my steel series mixer and my Audio-Technicas, i only plug in the 5xb headset when i need to talk to people.. its still a wonderful headset..

Yeah but its the mixamp that does it all, thats what i was saying, if you just plug in astro a40's and listen to shit, its gonna be like any mid range headphones

What you need to a headphone AMP if your a real audiofile. But getting a mixer is pointless.
