hey fellas, blade of grass pointed me here.

so i am just getting into photography (after working a bit with sticky i found i really like photography) and have been taking classes on the basics of photography at PhotoUno in NYC. i really am enjoying it and would like to better myself as a photographer and would also like to join the club. i am still very raw (not to be confused with RAW ;)) but i am learning as much as i can as fast as i can. not looking to be a professional or anything like that, but i would like to take it seriously and intend to. so anyway heres my setup so far...

Canon T3i (600D)
18-55mm 3.5-5.6 kit lens
55-250mm 3.5-5.6 tele kit lens

and here are some pics i have been taking as homework for my classes

this set is from a excersice where we had to present pictures of the alphabet using objects we encountered in our day to day

here is an attepmt at panning at night as per another homework assignment:

and here is a shot i took in the city before class to capture some motion blur

like i said guys, still learning but really enthusiastic about it
looking forward to learning much from you all

Here are some of my latest photos. More can be found in the URLs in my sig!

@Manny,
those are some pretty cool assignment pics, I love the X one the most.

@Bethella
As most photographers love to do it, putting a water mark on your photo is good, but putting one dab smack in the middle, even if its not very visible, is distracting and degrades photos IMHO.

Like this photo, no water mark, and its nice.

And this photo:

Has a tiny, tiny, watermark and I find it still degrades it.

This one is the same as last.

A great answer, and thats how I see it.

TL;DR: watermark your photos if you want, but make it small ish and in the corner.

EDIT: What camera do you have?

Photographers, I've recently acquired a Canon 40D and an 18-55mm EFS lens, here's a picture I took. Set it to a long exposure since it was dark out.

That is true, and I will probably stop using the watermark. I just wanted to make it hard for people to take my photos without crediting me, you know?

You are right. They are pretty distracting. Do you think the one in the corner is a good size, though? Should I make it smaller, or simply make it text? As you can tell, I am still pretty new at this :P

The one in the corner is good, I just HATE with a passion the centre partially visible ones.
personally, I stopped watermarking my photos, because really, if you want to steal it, the water mark wont stop them.
I'm stuck in that, I want to watermark my photos, and the nobody likes looking at watermarks place.
But really, you have to decide, and I think because your watermark is nice, you should watermark with the corner one.

I'm updating the front page as we speak. Or rather, as we read. Or type. Whatever floats your boat. :P

Bethella, increase your ISO and lower your aperture(if possible)
And what metering are you using? Some of the pictures looks like they were overexposed by the camera.(One of those brain farts if you will, we all have them occasionally)

Also people, post like crazy in this thread, we don't want it dying out completly now. :D

Nobben I actually very much like the second photo. It just drew me in when I saw it, which is good.

@Bethella
Can you post EXIF data?
I would recomen using Flickr so that we can easily find and review the info.
If you don't know what EXIF data is:
EXIF is the data that your camera stores in/on the image, such as Camera, lens, focal length, aperture, ISO, aperture exc.
So, when you post an image on Flickr, the EXIF data beacomes public so we can see it.
