i've had my 98 custom for bout 11 years now, has a response trigger,
not my primary marker at the moment, but i'd like to get it goin again,
my problem is that it shoots bout 3 shots then acts like its runnin out of pressure, it was chorno'in round 250 or so. has a new power tube, old one was cracked bad, all o-rings replaced last summer,

Maybe it needs a new main spring.

My spyder makes a sound like its out of air when using HP air so thats what I'd guess.

Has it only done this with the response trigger, and ever since you got it?

It's most likely your drive spring.

it does it when you do 3 or 4 trigger pulls, on the last one it does it, usin hpa, basically makin the machine gun effect, not lettin the hammer come all the way back, but i had 3-4k psi in the tank

Check to see if the two valve bolts on the right mid of the gun are loose. if they come loose the valve moves around and the gun wont recock itself completely causing the false out of air issue.

If you are using a HP air tank with it then that's a known issue. You need a SHP reg (Super high pressure) to work with the RT.

I'm not even bullshitting you that you NEED a SHP reg to keep it going if you have the RT.

With an RT? You don't need an SHP for the Tippmann to shoot, you need the SHP to get the RT valve to work at 100%

Were you RTing? DIdn't think so.

You need a SHP reg if you are using an RT, which is what he is doing.

Then you either modified your gun or had a broken reg since the RT won't work on a regular 800 PSI output.

Yes Tippmann RT triggers work just fine on a standard 800psi out put presure tank. I have had three tippmans with rt triggers (A 98c, a X7, and an A5) Never had issue with any of them running a regular high presure tank or Co2 (well co2 usually freezes the gun at high rates of fire but thats beside the point).

Further more the RT does not interact at all with the cycle of the marker so could not really cause the issue the original poster was speaking of.

If ya would like i can make a vid SHOWING my sisters current A5 with RT shooting just fine on a 3 different pure energy high presure (aka 800-850psi) air tanks.

So it's valve isn't connected right to the same air that blows the ram back? That's new.

I saw him use it, I even used the same gun with MY tank on it. And I use my tank on a PMR, and even a Spyder.

Nope the RT AND CYCLONE operate on the propelant gas side of the valve NOT the blow back gas. check this vid to understaqnd better http://www.youtube.c...h?v=hyUZrnvt2Zw

Another thing you can check is to see if your hammer oring is still good and if its sealing well with your valve. But particularly with the tippmann 98C the loose valve mounting bolts were more commonly the culprit.
