I was wondering if you guys think its better 2 have strength or endurance in paintball? I see pro teams and they have a combination of players who are ripped out or players with runner bodys. Id like 2 see your guys opinions

as far as workouts, it's probably better to gear more towards endurance. It doesn't take much strength to carry a marker and pod pack, but carrying them for hours on end will wear you out if you're not prepared.

Using a gun that's been hardly maintained and tossed from person to person more than a village whore is hardly a fair way to compare the marker.

I think complete opposite, though i think you should have both. Strength training gives you the speed that you need to make it to the 50 dorrito before they can get their guns up. Also holding a gun up for a while takes a toll on your shoulders, if you have weak shoulders youre going to have a tendency to put your gun down and that will make your response time just that much slower. Then again, if you dont have endurance and cant move after you sprint to the 50 dorito, youre screwed. Endurance in my opinion is not that important because though youre playing for the whole day,You have 2 minutes to rest for the PSP after every point. You have times to rest in between games. Youre not running a marathon. The pace of paintball is much similar to football for me and football is a lot more strength than endurance.

endurance i mean the only purpose for strength is to have enough to be able to keep ur gun steady but in the moment of the game strength doesnt really matter with adrenaline going so endurance definitely more important

I see everyones points Im kinda leaning towards the idea that you should have a happy medium so u can be more well rounded as a player.

I think you guys are confusing strength with only upper body strength. Lower body strength will help you be more explosive off the break and make you run faster to sprint towards the bunker you want to get into.

With nearly any workout, you'll gain both. You can gear more to get one or the other, but by training for endurance (ie: cardio etc...) you will also gradually get stronger.

Also, some fields like mine let players do games back to back until they're out of paint (which means I can have 5 or 6 games in 20 minutes.) If you are only a sprinter, you'll be exhausted after the second game or so...

Id say do a mix of work outs, you don't wanna be like those guys at the gym with massive arms and tiny legs, nor the opposite. lol

I dont think running 5 miles a day at a 8 minute pace will increase your 40 yard sprint time and thats what is important in paintball. You can do something called aerobic lifitng so you can do less cardio. Cardio is only neccesary IMO for sports like soccer where you run non-stop for 30minutes. this is not the case. In paintball, you sprint into bunkers that are mostly 10-20 yards apart. You do move inside the bunker, but its not what i would call constant movement. Especially when youre holding down a lane, youre not using that much to need endurance training. back to back games are still not even that bad with 2 minutes in between.

Im doing exclusively strength training and i dont have this "exhausted after the second game" effect. I think if youre training exclusively for paintball, i think something like 80% strength 20% cardio would be good.

Why not both? It's hard, but possible. But yeah nighthunter is right get towards endurance since a marker and a pod pack isnt that heavy.

What's with people saying endurance? Nobody should be exhausted playing paintball unless it's some 24 hour scenario, for goodness sakes you're moving for 3 seconds and then sitting/standing around!

I work cardio and upper body strength. You can get endurance by pushing yourself to do more than you think you can. For example, Say I think I can only do 30 push ups. I'll push myself to try to do 35 or 40. Helps build muscle and endurance.
