I have started to get serious about paintball, and I wanted to look into tournaments. I was wondering how much you pay, as a player, in one tournament. What kind of things are you supposed to pay for? I can't really compare cost to another sport such as baseball. ( I play Baseball) In most cases for Baseball all you need to do is to pay about $20 so all the players can pool enough money to play in a certain tournament. So how does it work for paintball? I'm sorry for being such a newbie but it would be VERY helpful to know.

depends on how much the tournament costs, the format, and how many games you will be playing. normally admission and 2 or 3 cases is how much a tournament would cost

Totally depends on the tourny. Price of admission say for the team is 75 bux...if it's a 3-man then that's 25 bucks a piece. Then there's the paint. Depending on how many teams the tournament has and how many games you'll be playing, each player might need as little as 1 case to as much as 3 cases. Sooo...paint could be anywhere from 50-150 bucks.

Fill up your roster, on 3 man teams, you can have 5 guys (in most cases) so if the entry is $100 per team, that's $20 divided between you guys.

In rookie tournaments, buy 2 cases per person. If you make it to finals, buy 1 more case per person.

Whatever's left over, save it for practice next week.

Well thanks guys, that helped alot. I would be playing in a rookie or young guns division so personally I don't think I would be shooting any more than 2.5 cases.

that seems about right, race to 2 seems pretty popular for rookie divisions. when i did race to 2 last i dropped half a case a game also.

Not really if it's a 3 man team...1000/3 that's like a hopper and a pod. I play snake so I rarely go through more then 1 pod anyway.

You guys play alot cheaper tournaments than i do. Where I play three man admission is generally 150-200 per team. But those tournaments have like 1000 cash prizes for first.

It really depends on the series, local 3man I can spend ~30$ on admission and usually a case, maybe 2 bringing the total to 80-150 depending if its a one or two day tournament. Playing a big tournament in another city though, your looking at upwards of 1000$ with entry fee's, prepaid paint, hotels, food, taxi/rental car, gear(something WILL break and it WILL be the one thing you didn't bring a spare of) plus extra cash for incidentals.

From all the tournaments I've played in both locally and around the Chicago area including the 1 time i played PSP chicago this is my breakdown on it. I've only played 3man locally and we figure about 3/4 case per game. Usually end up with bit extra but .5-.75 is good estimate. When we played 5 man for the Chi-town series we budgeted for 1 case per game and then an extra 2-3 cases total. And we always paint pool, everyone chips in and then you just throw it in a pile to use from. By far the most even way to do it. Otherwise your front players get off super cheap compared to back players. Now when I played PSP the one time we were figuring 1.5-2 cases per game, so we just bought a pallet. It helped that we ordered through our home field sponsor so we paid at cost and he paid entry.

Typically like $150 per 3-man team and $250 per 5-man team.

Paint is usually $50-$65 and expect to buy 1-2 cases if you pool paint or 2-4 cases if you're on your own and are a Back player.
