On most videos of paintball team games I see people running into the snake but on their way there they cover their forhead and sometimes their face. It is only near the end of their run that they do this and I can't figure out why they do this. Is it because they are getting prepared to dive into the snake or something else. If you could explain this that would be greatly appreciated.

It's so they get bounces off of their arm pads instead of breaks on their masks on the way to the snake.

Back in the day people would cover their masks with their hands like that so a paintball would hit their hand/glove and possibly bounce whereas if it hit their goggles it would most likely break.

Don't see people doing it that much anymore though.

All pro teams do this and I have adopted this when I dive for snake.

You can get bounces off your arm and hand, but many people do it so if it hits their hand or arm right before their dive and they can easily wipe it off during their slide. I've seen it a few times while reffing.
