You shouldn't need more than a class 6 for a 550D since their FPS burst is relatively slow.
I bought a 16GB class 10 for about 30$ USD
You can check www.digitalrev.com they ship internationally.

The class10 card is for the video's..not the images :P A class 4 card would probably be more than good enough for pictures etc.
HD-video requires faster transfer-rates though.. And that's why I need one.

30$ for a Class10 card sounds extremely cheap :P

not really something we could help you with.
there are no universal settings.
i will say though, to be getting 1/1000 at 4, youll need a decent amount of light.

the rule of thumb is, you want to pick a shutter speed atleast double your focal length to really freeze action.

so if you were shooting at 200mm you would need to shoot at an absolute minimum of 1/400. so 1/1000 is more than enough to freeze the action.

as for exposing the shot properly, use the meter in your camera.

You have to post process after you take the picture it helps with adjusting the colors to get good contrast.

seems like this thread is kinda inactive, but it seems like there are ALOT of cannon and nikon fanboys in here. Not to hate or anything, but its not like if you don't go Cannon or Nikon your dooming yourself. Companies like Pentax, Sony, and Olympus make GREAT cameras as well. Lens selection might not be up to snuff quantity- wise, but you can mount any Pentax lens all the way back to 1975 on a k-x, k-7, or what have you. Also, the quality of the Pentax and Olympus lenses are pretty much the same as Nikon or Cannon, i see no problem stepping out of the "mainstream" and giving these other companies a look

Yep.

Just like marker manufacturers, they all make stuff that do the exact same thing, just in different ways with different bells and whistles.

And the whole Canon/Nikon thing is a lot like "What's better, a DM11 or a Ego11?"... it's just preference

Hey guys so i just got my first DSLR a few months ago and i thought its high time to take it to the field and take some shots of friends.

The question i have is what, if anything, do you protect your cameras with when your out on the field?

also what size lens do you guys use for paintballing photography? At the moment i have a 35mm f1.8 and 18-55 f3.5-5.6 kit lens for my Nikon D5100.

And lastly what off brands would you guys consider for lens's for Nikons?

Thanks for the input!

seems like its in decent shape... what else do you want to know about it?
to my knowledge this is just a random, 3rd party lens thats pretty much a "throw-away" lens as ebay results show it valued at roughly $10-20.

its a useful focal length and a 2.8 f-stop is always nice, but i wouldnt expect it to be insanely sharp.

decent pick up for $2, im sure itll be fun to mess around with. can't say what it'll mount to but its probably a pentax mount or something.

I use a 70-300 f.4.5 - 5.6 NIKKOR lens for paintball photography. it works just fine, nothing special.
Know people with 100-300 f4 Sigma lenses, and they speak highly of them.(they are expensive and big though)

Hey guys, my friend really likes film and design. I've been telling him to get a DSLR, so he can shoot great photos and videos. What are some good starter DSLR's that have good video?

Also, I'm 90% sure he's getting a Macbook, if that changes anything. I'm a camera newb.

nah, him having a mac doesnt affect anything.
so for a good video camera... Budget?
he could get a T3i, which is what all of stick to drums videos are shot with, or a t2i. both have some good video. he could also get a D5100 from nikon. filming is a bit worse, but pictures are better. or get a D3100 which has less than ok video mode.
id go t3i, if he can afford, of D5100.

Do any of you have an opinion on the Canon vixia HF100? I'm picking one up for $345 with two lenses, aftermarket battery, and everything it comes with new. I'd be using it to film Nightball and regular paintball. Comes with a wide lense and a simpler lense. I'd also be buying a tripod.
