After multiple successful seasons playing both U.S. professional paintball leagues, Tampa Bay Damage has announced that they will not be playing in the NPPL this season.

The team will instead focus all of their efforts on playing the PSP.

Joey Blute, Manager, posted the following statement on the team's Facebook page:

"We have decided to discontinue playing in the NPPL. We will instead put all of our energy into winning in the PSP. We want to thank our fans and sponsors for all of the support."

Sources tell us that a handful of the Tampa Bay Damage players will be playing in the NPPL and CXBL as free agents with other teams. We are told that while they are free to guest on teams in other leagues, the PSP is the top priority and will dictate any decision making with regards to scheduling and practices.

Our sources have also stated that Damage is not the only team that will be foregoing play in the NPPL. There are at least three other teams that will not be playing in the NPPL pro division that played in it last season.

With Damage and other pro teams deciding to leave the NPPL, albeit for this season, what will this void mean for the quality of play in the NPPL pro bracket? Better yet, what happens to those pro spots?

That sucks, I hope the NPPL dont lose to many more or things might not end up very well. Always good to have at least two choices.

im curious to see who else could follow suit. I can only assume it would be the teams that play both already, so that could mean teams like infamous, impact, aftershock, etc.

Serious teams will drop out. PSP is the big leagues and playing both leagues is a lot of tournaments and can affect your performance for the big league. I saw this coming Joey basically said it in the PBA podcast. I figured dynasty would too cause Hinman said pretty much the same thing. Obviously hinman is not a part of dynasty anymore and ironmen do not play the NPPL anyways so who knows what they will do. NPPL is going down hill. The writing is on the way. Has been for a while.

I'd be okay with that.

Now before this becomes semi vs. ramping, I am not saying either is better, I just get more enjoyment out of being able to hold a lane in semi than just tapping the trigger for ramping.

As for what happens to the Pro spots...ill take them..assuming they come with all of the perks of course.

PSP is just the bigger and badder league. better spectator system, easier to follow games, faster pacing, webcast, full stats for pros, and the better competition in the pro leagues.
thats not to say that NPPL is any easier to win/play or anything. they both have very solid and talented teams, but the PSP has been the pinnacle of national paintball for years and years, while the NPPL is pretty much on its last legs and trying to stay afloat.
