Picked it up for dirt cheap off mcarter brown but this thing will not give a controlled pressure. No matter where I put the velocity screw it maxes out my 500 psi gauge, so I am assuming that is is constantly outputting the 850psi from the tank. Any help here would be awesome.

OP your problem is that the oring on the small piston is not the right one. It's supposed to be a hard white urethane oring, by the looks of it it has been replaced with a standard buna oring, and that doesn't work for these regs. Hit up crankwalk on IOG, he sells the specific oring you need.

ALSO if that doesn't work, switch the fitting to the other port. One is a gauge port and one is an input port if you switch them it will cause this issue too

they're not the best regs ever but they aren't bad by any shot.

What he said. If you look on the underside of the top, you'll see a little hole drilled to the side of that center valve. That's the side the gauge should be screwed into. Also, if you can take off the fitting and see a spring through that hole, that's the correct side. I think they're fine regs.

Though it's most likely the fact that it's the wrong o-ring (or an o-ring when there should be a harder disc rather).

Huh, I never would have thought an oring could cause that much havoc. I payed $10 for it so I guess a new oring should be worth it.

You could check around for a part from something else that would fit. I'm sure there's something, somewhere. Essentially, it just needs to be a hard urethane disc the width of that pin's head, with a hole in the middle.

I had similar problems with that regulator for my intimidator. Finding the urethane O-rings are a pain in the neck, I searched everywhere and couldn't find them. After calling boblongdirect.com and telling them exactly what the problem was they said just to switch out the regulator. But after looking for other parts from my intimidator I did find a web site that does sell that particular urethane O-ring, http://www.paintball...toro-rings.aspx. I haven't worked on that regulator sense I swapped it out but now that I found the O-ring I may try to fix it.

Perhaps I am uneducated in the way a regulator works, but I still fail to see what the hell this pin valve does.

Essentially, that nylon disc on the pin valve is the reg seat. The air comes in above that pin, down into the space between the pin and piston, and once a certain pressure has entered, enough pressure is there to push down the piston. Because the piston is no longer holding open the pin, it seals off the higher pressure from the tank.

Also, I was mistaken on the side for the fitting and gauge, I had them reversed.

Got it working, it was the oring, I am still amazed at how much one oring can do.
