This is fucking bullshit. Probably one of the worst calls in baseball ever. I hope that official gets fired for his fucking stupidity.

Also, the infield fly rule is probably the most bullshit rule in baseball anyways.

The issue in this case is whether or not to apply the rule. The rule itself is necessary and will not go away.

I think the rule should be treated kind of like a balk. If its called and the player catches it then the guy is out, but if its dropped then the runners all advance. It would certainly keep the aspect of the rule its needed for, but would also make sure the catch is made and shit like this doesn't happen.

Imagine how easy it would be to turn a infield fly into a double play. Runner on first, infield fly. The infielder drops the ball on purpose, and rolls a double play.

Then you didn't read how I suggest they change the rule.

Stop worrying about how you look, and start worrying about how you play. Get out on the field and play paintball the best you can, not stand at home in front of a mirror trying to figure out if your jersey matches your eyes.

Changing the rule to that way wouldn't make any sense. Many players are infielders and not out fielders for a reason. Some of the infielders on my team can't read, nor catch fly balls for anything.

Well then your team should raise its standards. The infield fly rule is meant to make sure people don't drop the ball in order to turn the double play. If the infielder can't catch the ball, then he should be punished with an error, the ball still should be caught for the out to occur.

That definitely looked like an error to me, I don't agree with the infield fly rule. It would be different if he actually made an effort and put his glove near the ball, but they were both several feet away and let the ball drop between them. That's not an infield fly rule, that's an error.

Thank you. I'll admit the Braves had lost the game earlier with their own errors, but that call hindered their attempts to win the game severely.

The infield fly rule is definitely not bullshit in any sense of the word. And a matter of fact it is case by case as it is in the umpires desecration to call it whenever they feel necessary, maybe it shouldn't have been called then but it still happened nothing anyone can really do about it.
