What's the difference between a PM8 and a DM9? Or a PMR? Might sound stupid, but I'm just not too familiar with the DM/PM series.

From my understanding the proto matrix is to the dye matrix as the etek is to the ego, cheaper alternative to getting a highend. The proto will just have the older goodies from the dye matrix series. Never followed them too closely just guessing, others here will correctbor confirm what ive said.

On a side note, I have the boss v2 bolt with a slight over bored ultralight barrel on my axe I finally used Sunday and it was constantly getting mistaken for a spool from how smooth it was and the sound signature from it. It didn't sound a thing like the other axes there. That might also be another alternative since the axe will be more efficient and with that perform like a spool.

the only real difference i see between the PM8 and the DM9 is the LPR is a little different. they share the exact same bolt engine. the Rail has no LPR and has a bolt very similar to the smart parts ION. the PM/DM series will have a softer, quieter shot over the rail.
There are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those who think they can and those who think they can't. both of them are right.

Ahh okay. And I'm aware of the Eigenbolt and Boss bolts for the axe, I would just prefer an actual spoolie for no reason in particular. I figured that Proto was just the Invert of Dye, but I wouldn't know what else to expect past that. Is the difference in cost extremely noticeable between the PM's and DM's of the same year?

They stopped making the pm series after the pm8 because no one bought the dm of that year, even some pro players liked the pm8 over the dm it was probably the best dye gun ever made, just because it was cheaper and exactly the same internally and some would agree better externally. The efficiency out the box for some was even 12 pods, after tuning mine I had the same result. You won't be disappointed with it, I'm disappointed that I sold mine :(

I'd recommend the pm8 over a shocker, the ul frames are the best there are

You won't be getting a used Geo2 straight for a used Axe. Also, I don't believe a Geo2 will be all that much smoother than an upped axe.

If you have some technical know how, I'd say look into shockers

No problem, shocker's take little technical know how like stated above but they are still a good investment.

I know I'd be adding for a Geo 2, but I've been really curious about PE markers. Everyone seems really supportive of either a Shocker, DM9, or PM8. Nothing from MacDev (minus Droid), or anything about a Quest?

Quest are nice but pm8s are basically dm's which is a high end, and since dms are the same, we can say it's a dm12, luxe are basically shockers so we can say a shocker is a luxe. A quest was the shockers competition and it is amazingly underrated, I personally don't know enough about macdev to make a reason for you to get or not to get one. but in my opinion the pm8 is the best. Since you want a spool people who aren't p.e fan's will not suggest a geo because, believe it or not, it's not the smoothest spool or near it.

I've always been a big fan of droids and pm8s (or any matrix for that matter). They're both in my top 10 favorite markers ever made. Even though they are getting older now, they still perform just as good as anything being made nowdays, better then what you get brand new for that price without a doubt.

I'm also a big shocker person myself. For the price the pm8 (or any older matrix) and the droid are without a doubt the best contenders though. You can get them both for around $300 and under now days which is a steal.

Personally didn't like the quest. Heard all the rave reviews and had to see for myself. Sold the quest and kept my DM6. PM8 is a fine choice.
