Hey guys,
I am looking into buying knee pads. After being hard on my knees my whole life, I've had to go through surgery and removal of dead bone under my kneecaps (ouch :S). So I think there's no better time to get knee pads than right now...

Just from browsing at the different brands on ANSgear, I notice that prices do actually vary. I assumed that pads were pads... and any pad would be as good as the other... pads are pads are pads are pads... right? So I just want to know what knee pads you guys recommend and why they might be better or worse than others.

I noticed most pads were around the $40 range and that sounds right. I don't think I want to spend $60 on dye knee pads (or do I?). But if you guys have any ideas please comment below!

Thanks,
Michael "Carpy2" A.

Sure pads are pads, but the difference is comfort, thickness of padding, and durability.

I've only used Dye knee pads, but that's because I wouldn't want to use anything else. They're some of the most expensive on the market, but I feel they're well worth it. They have like an inch and a quarter of dense padding so you literally don't feel a thing. No bullshit, if I ever walk off the field and my feet are killing me from being in a weird position, I just kneel on the bench for ten minutes. My feet have a chance to rest, and I literally don't feel a thing. They're also pretty damn comfortable. They have that cut in the back so the material doesn't fold and pinch your skin. Also it's designed with a strap and silicone to sit right above the meat of your calf and keep the pad from falling down doing even the most strenuous running or diving.

My biggest beef with them is I think they're somewhat overpriced, and they're hot as hell (but hey, I'm sure all pads are hot).

Protecting your knees is pretty important and if I were you I would go to a store if possible and try on all the pads they have and get whichever one feels like it would work with you.

Great advice! Yeah I am planning on trying some on, I was just wondering what sets certain pads away from others. After reading your description of the Dye kneepads, I can't help but think that those are the exact characteristics I want in a kneepad :D. Thanks for your reply.

Yeah Dye pads are for sure worth the price but Sly's are nice as well.

Pads as with any clothing is personal preference. I love the eclipse pads. The material is form fitting with the padding stitched under the layers. They also breathe very well.

Eclipse pads are the best bang for your buck.

The 07-09 models are going on sale now for a couple of bucks. They're all pretty much the same, except the graphics and designs. Same type of material and all.
