I swear Child and baby names get worse and worse everyday. Today as past of an assignment in for our Grade 11 honors English Class(big joke by the way), we had to listen to children in the 1'st grade read us stories and then read them some. Not bad, beats listening to boring lectures i figured. But some names of the kid's struck me, a few in particular : Ryder, Van, and Aloe and Pearl... who the fuck name's their kids like that? Are regular names like Branden on Emily just that bad that you need to go out of your way and name your kid something stupid? You know that poor kid will end up getting ridiculed at some point by others. And you know that many people won't be able to take them seriously as a person because of those names. I sweat it's getting worse by the year.

I sweat to, it's just getting terrible...

But parents want children with "Unique" names, even though statistically, that kid is more likely to grow up a criminal, at least everyone will know that little Speed Racer will always have a unique name.

Pearl - Common early 20th century name
Van - Danish
Aloe - Plant, just like Lily, Heather, Jasmine, etc

So really, Ryder is the only one of those that's dumb

It's all about the game and how you play it, All about control and if you can take it
All about your debt and if you can pay it, It's all about pain and who's gonna make it

My wife txts me about once a day asking if I like some horrible off the wall name. They either sound plain disgusting or something I had to take antibiotics to get rid of. She always gets upset and says "you just hate every name I pick" to which I answer with "you always try to ruin my fucking appetite with your baby names"
There are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those who think they can and those who think they can't. both of them are right.

That's not that odd of a name. Not very common, but by no means odd or unheard of.

What I hate is when parents spell regular names weirdly to make their kids "unique". I've seen "Isaac", a fairly common name, spelle "Izac". I shit you not. It was on an application for my work. I've also seen "Sierra" spelled as "Syera" on another application.

If Van is a danish name, then i can agree with that. But naming a kid after a prickly oddly shaped similar to cactus plant is just that, odd. At least Naming you're kid "Rose" or Heather, then that makes sense because they're beautiful plants that are meant to reflect the person.
But if you name your kid "Bambina Broccoli" (true name btw), then they will get ridiculed because kid's don't understand that it's not the kid's fault but their dumb parents. Then the parent's blame the school's for bullying that was basically started by a parent's bad decision.
Bud that's a different subject.

Pearl is a very old name like Martha. But for the record ... Eccentric names are not new.

*cough* Barack *cough*

Edit. Also a good piece of advice is to NEVER make fun of somebody's name. They never gave themself that name and nobody needs to be belittled just for a filled in line on a birth certificate.

Gosh these people and their great ideas to name their kids either a new ridiculous name, or a silly variation of a name, or in really bad scenarios, variations of names of the opposite gender.
Example:
Shon, Skylar, Talon, Wess, Tylre, Jayden, Hayden, Craiden, Caden, Chase, Bladen, Kylar, Aiden, Bleu, Addison, Taylar, Gavin, Ty, and the worse one out them all: Dick.
It's silly that we will think their unique, sure, but a different form of unique, known as 'wierd'. Plus they normally ARE the wierd ones in our community.

I got a pretty regular name, but uncommon enough to be interesting: Daniel
Well until this year, where it's the third most common name.
