So a co worker and I were discussing how much money is in the paintball industry. He then asked what is the prize for winning a pro tournament? I have no clue. Do you guys know?

Exactly correct.

When you factor in entry, paint cost, travel, food, and other expense, they really aren't left with a lot of money, especially when you divide the prize between all of the team members.

Its 10 grand to be split among a whole team and coaches. Its really just enough to pay for travel, entry, paint, etc. (but do keep in mind that some/all pro teams get some/all of this from sponsors). So at most each person would take home maybe 1 grand. And knowing some of the teams that win, they will waste a lot of that partying Sunday night. Tournaments really aren't for the cash prizes.

*the comment above me sums it up. we posted this at the same time and said basically the same thing

basically take all the money you spent preparing for the event (entry + paint), all the money you spent traveling to and from the event, your entry fee, plus paint, plus ID card, and all of your expenses for the past 4 months preparing for the event...

now take 1/4th of that....

that's about what you get for getting first place.

So if you spent $5,000 preparing for the event, first place is usually about $1,200

You can be lucky if you get back 25% of what you spent to win the event.

But also playing professionally don't you usually have a paint sponsor? And sponsors that will pay a big part if not all of entry fee?
