CP long reg with 90deg. fitting?

Saw a picture somewhere where a person had some sort of coupler that went up into their long cp reg and allowed them to screw a 90 deg. fitting onto it. Any ideas to what it could be? I would kind of like to do this.

What they probably did was get a piece of 1/8 NPT female coupler, and a 1/8 NPT male coupler, which when screwed together end to end makes a makeshift 1/8 extender.
