Just got all the parts for computer at microcenter.... No os. Any ideas?

Ubuntu is free, or you can "buy" windows.

I wouldn't suggest Ubuntu, unless your great with computers, the average consumers mind will be fucked with Ubuntu.

Actually get windows 8, the released preview is free.

I use it right now. It just takes a little bit to get use to then you will like it.

You will have to download it and burn the .iso file to a disk. Or you can buy a copy of windows at the store and use the disk in the box.

Or "burn" the .iso onto a usb, that's my favorite way. You dont need the os till you've built your computer, so assemble it and then worry about the os.

Have you even tried ubuntu? It's easy as heck. If anything, the GUI is better than windows, everything is sorted into groups (I find) better. Only when you get into the technical stuff does it get complicated. (ie shells and such)

To be completely compatable you only have to download a restricted extras package and wine. And they're both free.

(search restricted ubuntu, and search wine in the ubuntu app store)

Don't bother trying to get IE. It's only on windows, and it sucks.

I use ubuntu, it's awesome.

There are other distributions, but ubuntu is recommended for beginners. (Linux Mint, Damn Small Linux, Debian, Fedora, OpenSuse, and Kubuntu, just to name a few)

Ive used it before and the only problem i had was i had to use a wired connection, but i didnt bother to google a resolution to it. (you can also use any os alongside ubuntu)

That's true for them all, I don't no of any OS that you can't dual boot.

Yes it is. Especially with Ubuntu because it has an automated package manager. (meaning you can click on installable files and it will install them rather than having to go through Terminal)

Yeah but you can't use any Adobe products, or any MS suit. You also can't play alot of games.

Once Steam for Linux launches, games won't be an issue. Adobe suites work with wine, my friend uses Linux distros exclusively on his laptop and has photoshop loaded up on it.

I guess it works but I guess it isn't supported (since you can't download a linux version of it from their website).
