I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the best speedball gun for under $500?

Before anything, there is no "best" gun. Every gun offers something different. Research stuff in that range to find what is best for you.
Go for a used highend. For $500 you can get a sweet high end from around 08-09 or maybe even newer.

I recommend the macdev clone vx, macdev droid, planet eclipse geo 1-2, bob long vice, marqs, or g6r

While there is no "best" gun, a GEO 2 will be a solid marker.

The one ya most comfy shooting that best offers what your looking for. Every one likes something a bit different. For myself at that price point I absolutely LOVE my AGD RT ULE AUTOMAG. BUT a full mechanical speedball setup is not every ones pic.

Another marker I really liking is Tippmanns Crossover. Basically a copy of an EMAG. I may have to pick one up used some day.
AGD 68 Automag, AGD RT ULE, DP E1, Empire Trracer, Sheridan PGP 2k, Tippmann A5, Tippmann Pro/Carbine, Tippmann SL-68II

Both are loud, and both will not have the best shot quality. However, the etek will be extremely reliable, and comes with a large bag of goodies, hard case, tools, lube, etc. For a first speedball marker I would go etek, the thing is pretty much bulletproof. My friend went straight from a tippman 98 to an etek, and two years later its still his only electro hes ever had. He loves the fact you can beat the crap out of it and if won't skip a beat.
It also has a pretty decent trigger.

look into someone who has to sell a 2011 G6R very fast. if they are desperate enough you can steal one for $500... and the 2011 G6R will last you a decade.

There ya go.

anyone who says that "gun X" is better then a G6R in this price range is sadly mistaken.

my vote goes to the PM8 because you'll have extra money left over. Any everybody likes saving money.
Don't buy the new protos, they're totally overpriced for what they are.
Or a used DM
or an Axe (new)
or an older ego
or a drone DX (new)

DMs, PM8, Quest, Axe or Shockers are good smooth and quite markers. Personally I have a shocker that I quite enjoy. It's really all preference... Try to get out to the field and shoot different guns to find your favorite.

A used G6R or Axe would be your best bet since theyre so dependable, and are extremely quiet for poppet valve markers too.
Make sure you buy an extremely good mask first; Vforce Grillz and Empire Eflex are good choices. Then a ninja carbon fiber tank, followed by a loader like the Rotor or Z2 which can be found used for about $90. Finally, buy a marker with however much money you have left.
