I would also change the motherboard for a different one, I don't really like AsRock, they have had really bad quality control in the past.

you can very easily either downgrade the $1300 build or upgrade the $800 build.
i've been pricing out a PC build for a while now and their builds are always super solid. I usually take the $800 build replace their suggested GPU with a higher end one(lately its been the EVGA 670 FTW card)

Can you link to the build?
The other option is to look at Tom's hardware, they are one of those "authorities on tech".

right now, id wait for their January 2013 guide since the december builds included a lot of black friday/holiday specials in their pricing.
like i said, you can always upgrade/downgrade parts as you see fit and have a really really solid system.
Also, read through the comments for any worthwhile changes to the guides. people will sometimes suggest parts that have a little more value, better performance, etc.

then you can replace the parts with something you want?
Their builds are just a jumping off point, you could easily take the $800 build and swap out the case, GPU, and PSU and still be close to your range.

EDIT: Nevermind, see the cpu and mobo are a combo. So yea, get a better psu, fuck the solid state.

Why? getting an SSD is one of the best ways you can speed up your computer. My laptop that has an SSD boots to desktop in 15-18 seconds.

Now, this isn't an extreme gaming build. It has future proofing (good case, good motherboard, good PSU), but the graphics section is a bit lower because of this. This will be a perfect build if your doing more video encoding (you can OC the CPU).

I disagree.
Loading programs is instant with an SSD, boot is instant etc.
And, RAM only dedicates 100MB of memory for the system.

But if you're looking for a nice gpu, I have a 7950 and I love it. It is the one that is 280 after 20 Mir on new egg, it gets pretty smooth framerate on far cry 3 on the highest settings with little to know screen tearing. There is also a lot of room for overclocking.
I also think that the windows 8 for $15 is still in effect, and that could be a cheaper solution
