Is this a goo d starting marker and is it worth it to pay the extra 40 bucks to get the black heart board?
Also is a Proto fs switch thermal lens a good starting mask?

if you go for the black heart board just get the extcy, you get the better board stock and a better trigger if you ask me, not to mention a longer barrel (which does not improve accuracy, i just found the stock one on the envy so short that i had trouble sighting down it because id end up going cross eyed). i have a envy without a black heart board and the last time i used it i was getting a hopper and 4 lock lids out of it, so its not great on efficiency either when you're playing those hour or two long games at the local field.

It is worth it, but as the above poster said, just get the XTC instead.

IF your spending that much the extcy is the way to go and the Proto Switch even with thermal is a bad idea my friend hates his and for about the same money get the vforce profillers the best mask out there

Vforce profiler or even grills.
If you don't wanna shell out for the blackheart board. The envy is a good starting marker w/out the blackheart.

I am a Frugal person and would like to purchase the Proto Switch FS as a gift for my brother. He will probably play paintball once a month with me. So any details as to why the dislike towards the proto switch fs mask?

Also, you don't need to buy new. These things are very reliable and very serviceable. You can get a used eXTCy for around $175 probably.

If this is for a new player, you may want to consider the JT Pro-Shield (Spectra) instead.
It's the exact same mask as a Pro-Flex, but considerably cheaper, and the rigid face and ear armor protects better than the more expensive flex pieces.
