They just dropped to 430, which is a great deal.
Upgrade to a clone board/OLED screen, clone grips, vp trigger will total to about 620.
Leaves you about 50 extra compared to buying an axe pro.

If i am not mistaken, the vp trigger doesn't work on the drone. The only aftermarket trigger that does is the critical trigger.

I could have sworn that was the case, but either way you're still saving a bit.

Yes, it is. I don't really care what you call it, everyone and their mom runs it one way, and macdev goes and does it another. I want the ability to 3 ball within the 1 second time period, not have to pull the trigger twice to get back to throw extra paint down field. If it came with both I'd have a drone right now, the fact that it isn't even option to use traditional PSP is silly.

the drone is more reliable than an axe. you dont need to upgrade it to make it perform well like an axe

How are you defining reliable? Both are going to be reliable guns, I don't think one is going to leave you stranded noticeably more than the other. The axe has it's set of pros and cons, as does the drone. Some objective, but mostly subjective. I love the trigger on the axe, with the drone you are looking at a $50 upgrade to get one on par with the factory axe (in my opinion). But then again, the reg on the drone is more easily serviceable than the axe reg. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with either gun and there is no clear winner. It's akin to the "what is better, the iOS 6 or Android Jellybean," you'll find plenty of opinions, but it's really all up to the user which is "best."
The "OMG you have to have a new bolt, spring, barrel, feedneck, grip extender, etc" phenomenon you see with the axe is probably one of the most exaggerated things in paintball just behind "freezing" paint. Sure, you can, but it really isn't needed, it shoots great out of the box. It's just a more popular (cheaper) gun, and so it's a given people will mod it.
