Gyros are common in rc heli's and photography (expensive). Basically you have two electric motors spinning weights one on a vert axis the other on a horizontal axis. probably could make one though... I'll try to get backk to you on this within the week Cookie

Anyway if you did use lead you could always get lead shot and seal it in a bag that way you could fit it in the space you have while not having to worry about touching it

It would even be do-able to make the shield even bigger, and add a peep hole to aim.
