I remeber this one on my 98C where you have to put it through the tip side and after the tip is secured there is nowhere for the insert to go. And wasn't there .5-1' of aluminum before it reached the insert which was beneficial for the bolt not wearing?

And isnt this one the only style that ANSGear sell now, and is maybe inferior to the above style? I've also notice that the super freaks have this styled back too. This style slides out through the back of the back

I'm using this on my CCM when I do buy it so what would be a better buy? I guess I also need one for my mini too

I believe that style on the 98 is specific to the 98, all "normal" freak backs are open to the insert from the front and back.

but is there an advantage or pros to finding the first one in A/C threads? damn I cant remember that site claiming bolt wear without that extra space before insert

My point is, you can't find it the way you're describing unless it's in 98 threads. If you're going to put it on something other than 98 threading, it'll be the standard internal style.

The outside looks are irrelevant to the function of the back. The way the Tippmann works, it needs that inner collar of metal because the threading is not big enough for an internal bore that the insert could fit in.

totally wrong.

the first style is just an older version of the freak. the 2nd one you posted is the newer version.

Will the mini or CCM cause any wear in the insert due to the bolt?

Also if I buy a .684, .679, .675 inserts in SS, .670 in brass will I be good for most paint? I already own a AA back (.689) and invert barrel (.691, probably needs replacing has hairline scratches)

I was not talking about visual style, but merely the differences between the inside of a 98 Freak back and other Freak backs.

New style one is fine, internally they'll be the same for a autococker threaded back.

The first pic is the old backing. It also came in stainless steel. The second one came out in 2k5. A third one is the freak JR. All the same except milling.

Freak backs do come in different lengths to accommodate the thread types. Some have the insert the full length like cockers and some don't because the thread bore is smaller to insert into the marker (A5 I think) so the insert doesn't remove from the back portion.
