The shooting occurred in a wooded area near County Road 550 West, about three miles south of Ind. 44, in Shelby County.

Shelby County Deputy Coroner Robby Stonebreaker pronounced the boy dead at the scene of one or more gunshot wounds.

The investigation is continuing, but authorities said it was believed Mark Spangler and four children, including the shooting victim, had permission to use the wooded area for paintball activities, according to the release.

Witnesses told investigators that the gunshots came from an area home. The father and surviving children were taken to a hospital for observation.

Wow, that really sucks. They say it came from an area home, any update on why? Did someone accidentally discharge their gun while cleaning it? Did someone shoot the kid on purpose? Was someone trying to shoot the dad and missed? Sure are a lot of unanswered questions so far.

Actually, I'm pretty sure any redneck knows more about firearm safety and proper use better than you do. You'd be more likely to shoot off a stray round than a redneck. At least the ones I know have been born with a gun in their hand, and have learned the safe way to use and shoot one before they could walk. Do you even know which end to point away from you?

what a terrible story

I know I don't like in the thick of the woods, but I hear bushes rustling behind my house all the time. The last thing I'd do is blindly fire into the woods, not knowing who or what is back there. There is a TON of blame to be placed all the way around. The shooter for not identifying his target, the people who were playing paintball who didn't notify the property owner they were going to be there... holy shit

In the early 1990's, I played alot of renegade ball on tons of private land. And the owners of the land ALWAYS knew when we were going to be playing, and when we were going to be leaving.

This story is just a terrible story to read, what a fucking way to start 2012
