I assume you're tech savvy enough to know how to build a pc? Because buying one is just a waste of money in my opinion.

I would swap a little on what Manley said:
Go for a Phenom II x4 965,
AMD $60-100 AMD AM3/+ board.
Go for a cheaper GPU (6950 is about $200 which is $20 cheaper)
8GB of RAM
And everything else what he said.
But really, save up a bit more, and it will be easier (like $700 or $800).

EDIT: make sure it's minimum 160" MHz Ram.

I'd go with Intel over AMD, since Intel makes better processors. Sure AMD might be cheaper, but you get what you pay for. I'd much rather pay a few bucks extra for Intel, and know that I'm getting a quality product. Rather than going cheaper for AMD and getting just that, something cheaper and not as good.

an amd phenom x4 will out perform pretty much most of the i3 line, which is what its "price" competitor is.. intel starts to do better when you compare like the faildozer series to the i5 2500k.. thats when intel is worth it.. but for this much of a budget, AMD will be great..


the 7850 out performs the 6950 by a decent amount, and i say just try to get some rebates or find a sale at some point, then buy some good stuff..
If you dont want to save up the 20ish dollars, then go with the 6950


Like ive suggested(and alot of people) before, one grat case for the money and for the build quality.. cooler Master haf 912.. its usually around the 50 dollar mark, but sometimes it gets lower after Mail In rebates.

you could eventually add in an extra 4gb kit (if you only get 4gb now)

That's kind of a fanboy attitude
But I completely agree that Intel makes better processors, but the Phenom II X4 965 is a black edition processor (unlocked), has four cores, and is clocked at speeds equal to an i5-3570K, which is higher than any of the dual core i3. Why give someone an end-of-life processor?

If I were to save up $800 I have other things much more desirable, that's why I don't want to spend to much, just enough to play a few games. Thanks for all the input guys.

Also, the intel route will have a better upgrade path unless AMD completely turns around with piledriver.
