I recently (or not so recently anymore) graduated college and moved to Los Angeles. With slightly more money than when I was in college, I was looking at getting back into paintball, hopefully getting a chance to play every other weekend or so. The biggest issue for me is that the closes field seems to be about an hour and a half away, and three hours of driving is going to add up in my gas bill. I mean, paintball is going to be a big enough strain on my budget

You mean HSP.
You have choices on which way you want to drive. Head East and you will find HSP (13-15 miles), SC Village (40-44 miles) and Jungle Island (60-65 miles). Going north you have Field of Fire (45 miles), Paintball USA (53 miles), CPP and Warped (55-58 miles).
Your best bang for buck, especially if you play pump and want to play during the week is HSP. Their paint prices are high, especially considering what you are paying for. The best day to go is Friday since you and BYOP only on that day.

My son and I play most every week-end and live in the LA area, we have played at all of the fields mentioned. I could not disagree more with your assessment of CPP, quite the contrary, I think it is the very best field in the Los Angeles area. The playing fields are good, well maintained and the lay-outs are interesting. The check-in staff in professional and efficient. The referees are well trained, friendly and in control. The pace of play is fast, so you get a lot of games. The crowds are reasonable and very friendly. Even the taco truck that arrives at lunch time is very good.
The only thing to complain about is the hill between the parking lot and the fields.
I would like to hear what you think is not good about CPP?
