I play rec ball with some regularity. I've owned 2 minis. One was a v2 and the other now is brand new. I've put 2 maybe 3 cases through it. But I distinctly remember the other mini being much easier to shoot. Shot quality wise. The new mini is quieter and has the shockwave. But it just seems like the other mini had a smoother shot. What the hell is going on.

When was the last time you shot the first Mini? Our memory is absolutely terrible at maintaining a reliable baseline for comparison, especially when all you have to go on is what you remember feeling.

Plus, did you have a different tank, hopper, were you shooting at different FPS, how are the two guns tuned, etc?

Well about a month ago when I sold it. I haven't changed the tank but I do have a magna drive now instead of a halo 2. And the two guns are at stock settings. I shoot PSP at 12ish bps. Any insight on how I should have it tuned? I'm not even sure what that improves on?

Like, do you know what pressure the old Mini was at? Even something like overboring vs underboring and how you turned the velocity screw could have an effect. Also, distribution of weight will have an effect. A halo is much more front heavy, so because it's further away from the pivot point on your shoulder, it will tend to dampen the "feel" of the gun shooting, where a Magna is more back heavy, so it will not have as much an effect on damping the shot.

Basically, every gun is different, even if it's the same model, and compound that with a different setup to give you a different feel every time..

They're both around 180-185. It may just be distribution of weight I guess. Just a little pet peeve I suppose. Like I said earlier though if anyone has info on how to tune my gun to get the most out of it it would be great!

A quick and simple method is basically sweetspotting the poppet.

  • Set pressure to something like 170psi
  • Over the chrono, turn the velocity adjuster until the velocity stops going up
  • Chrono with the reg

Dwell won't have nearly an effect on the shot, but you can play with the settings. Basically, lower it until the gun no longer cycles consistently, then raise it back up until the gun cycles consistently. Stock dwell is dwell the company knows will work for every gun they'll ever make, so because every gun's different, you can most likely function on less dwell.
