Agree to an extent. The popular shit you hear today that consists of mostly random bass-heavy noises is, indeed, shit.
However, there is dubstep out there with consistent flowing rhythm and a variety of ear-pleasing sounds.

This is actually dubstep, and Skream was one of dubstep's original pioneers back in 2006. However, most wouldn't associate him as such these days. When dubstep takes vibes from ambient and other forms of electronica, it can indeed be enjoyable to listen to.

This is likely the stuff you're referring to, and I'll agree, it's fucking irritating at best. Unfortunately, this is what seems most popular these days...
