I know that on my house's property, we get it sprayed with a natural repellant to help repel the ticks. Certain types of wood chips and stuff also repel ticks. There's numerous resources on the internet though.
Good luck!

They also make a spray you can use. Check it out.
Read the label. Follow instructions.

I'm going to have to pick some of this stuff up, because I'm a real tick magnet. I can walk from my front door to the car and find one crawling on my leg when I sit down.

I cover most of my body with:
- A full set of Underarmor Clothing (Heat Gear, moisture wicking), Treated with Permethrin (Sawyer brand):
- Compression Pants (Tights)
- Compression Long Sleeve Shirt
- Skull Cap
- Compression Long Sleeve Shirt
- Ultramax Moisture Wicking Boot Socks, Treated with Permethrin
- Mechanix Gloves, Treated with permethrin
This leaves my neck, face, and ears which, I treat with DEET. The challenge with DEET is that you don't want to apply it anywhere where you have rubbing. There's a good chance you'll get some serious irritation.
I've been doing this for over four years and have not found a tick on me yet.

Keep ticks that you pull out of your skin for tests.
Wear long clothing.
You will get them on you anyway so have someone (spouse or parent) to check your body for them because 90% of the time you will not feel the initial bite!
