Team Numbers assigning team numbers

Hey im looking to start a team and i need help regarding team numbers. Do you pick your favorite number or does the league and division you play in assign you and your team numbers based on rank like in motocross. dont want to get in trouble at our first tourny lol

you dont even have to have matching jerseys in most amature tourneys
