No, you are fine. Besides, the Axe has its high pressure regulator in the ASA, so the only air going into the gun itself is the operating pressure of the gun anyway.

If you already have an SLP then your Axe will be fine, but you don't need to get one for it no

Sorry to be a necro here, but I am interested in getting my son an Axe and was curious of the same issue. However, I am a little confused on what the answer is. One person is saying no a LP tank is not required, and another is saying that an SLP is good. What's an SLP and does the Axe require a LP tank?

The axe's asa is also the regulator, so a high pressure output tank will work fine. The air is already being regulated down before it goes throughout the gun, so there is no need to worry about using a low pressure tank.
The reason many macroless guns are recommended to use low pressure output tanks is so that you don't blow the air seals between the parts of the gun. Many of them need to send the air to another part of the gun to get regulated further, but the axe's asa IS also the regulator, so it is getting regulated down immediately.
