Probably a better choice anyway since you wouldn't be able to use Auto focus with the D. Also I havent tried out the 35 1.8 but I hope to soon :D

How often do you go out and shoot? What lense do you use most often?

I have a Nikon D3100 w/ kit lens and a Nikkor 55-300. Not the highest quality, but it's fun :D. I've been teaching myself settings....I'm eager to try some long exposure shots on a full moon night.

Photography is getting to be an obsession for me haha. I get out and shoot when ever I can and sometimes I just go for a walk and take my camera with me. I bought the d50 with the 50mm 1.8d so that is what I have been using but just received the 18-55 kit lens and the 55-200 lens today in the mail so we will see soon which one I shoot the most with.

MZINcamo- Nice setup!

Nice! I love my d3100. I'm also looking forward to do long exposure shots but to do some light painting.

I also enjoy videography too, however Nikon's aren't really built for Video so I use it rarely.

I do want to try light painting. Do you just use a flashlight? I understand how to do it but not the light....I guess a sparkler would look pretty cool too.

I use anything I can. For this picture I used a led flashlight,

The ones I did on the first page was a home made "contraption" haha

I am swinging it around in a circle. Since I am moving quickly and the exposure is so long it doesn't capture me.

Amazing pictures Trum_15!

Even more people using Nikons. Posted Image

I know there are some Canon owners on this forum, I actually thought there were more Canon owners than Nikon owners. But that is left to see.

Trum: Smugmug, I only have the powered version so far but I aspire to get the Pro version.

Figured it's just easier to link that than actually insert images while posting from my phone :P. All taken with a D3000 and its kit lens, although I'm looking in to a 35mm 1.8 and a 70-300 (VRII preferably) as soon as I have some money to throw around.

Haven't tried it but have heard good things about it. For 40 bucks its worth a shot  Also you can only use manual focus with it so that's something to consider.

It looks like its in good condition, but it also looks like something that would be on a film camera?

Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure it came on a film camera (Again I am not 100% certain) For 40 dollars it doesn't seem to be a bad deal. Also they sell for much more than 40 on ebay and here is the film camera that it came on.

My 50mm 1.8 something is manual focus only. My camera has an built in focus motor so I get auto focus either way. Posted Image
I have no clue why the D7000 isn't a professional model but a consumer one.
It's said to be better than the D300s which is the cheapest pro model. And they cost pretty much the same, at least here.
The reason I got the D7000 was that I bought my camera during the tsunami in Japan and the shop was out of D300s and D700 cameras.

I hope to upgrade to a used D700 this year though, that camera is insane.
I can rock ISO 3200 with no grain, combine that with a 70-200 f/2.8 lens and weather is not going to stop me.

Not that it did with my D7000 and the old 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 though. I usually turn the ISO higher to get better shutter speeds, grain is pretty easy to edit out, movement blur is not.
