Don't care.

Honestly, if they did merge, I think it'd be the same as the AFC and NFC merging in football. Sure, there may be benefits, but will it realistically affect the amount of interest people have? Probably not.

This is the wrong analogy because both the NFC and AFC play in one league and play against each other. Look at how in the 1960's when the AFL and NFL joined together to make the NFL, pro football became much more popular and taken off ever since.

How bout they merge the leagues then have three shot events and semi events? I like the idea of having one paintball league, because then it'd probably have a better shot at being recognized as a sport by a broader audience, but if they go only semi they'll lose all their 3 shot fans, and vice versa.

No. If one goes under, the other one does well. It offers competition. It offers an alternative. Once one group owns the monopoly, it's over and you won't see anything new.

that's one part of the equation.
people look at paintball in the big picture from a "consumer" perspective. sure, i know it's quite the investment to go and play to some tournament.

But there's no way paintball could be recognized universally as the sport it is, if there is no main and conclusive definition on what competitive paintball really is to the public in general.
there is no governing body, there is no general rules or formats applied, there is no definitive league. everything paintball related is relatively just all over the place, compared to other sports.

that's one of the things i see keeping paintball from truly becomming more of a definitive culture and discipline and somewhat keeps it within the parameters of being a hobby.

PEV's in DC? If so I've heard thats about to change. Turnout at those events isn't optimal. IMO It's more the timing than the place.

i think it would be better for the industry if they merged but still had the same amount of events. people might take the sport a little more seriously if we had one league like most other sports.

I could see how it would be advantageous. You'd have a larger team list. The format would be consistent so teams like Dynasty that play in both leagues could focus on one format instead of two.
But going against, I love seeing both Xball, and NPPL, and for one league to put on the same number of events that two were originally doing sounds like a difficult proposition, where as dropping the number of events would kinda suck.
