I may miss out on the opening action, if I try to sprint even a 1/4 mile with all the gear and paint I cary, someone may be carrying me off. I'm guessing there will still be people to shoot when I get to the front at a brisk walk with a case of paint. I've been running to try to get in shape, but my body isn't what it was 20 years ago, and I probably add around 50 pounds with gear and paint. So to all you sprinters on the Empire side, try to save a few Horde tagets for me.

I weighed 230 pounds empty at LL4 and it took me about three minutes at the opening charge.

Training tip: Take your pack and replace the pods with 12oz bottles of water. Then strap on your pack, pick up a brick with your shooting hand, and take off running.

Train that way and you will notice less difference when you play.

Do it with ankle weights on and you'll feel like you're flying when you're running at the event. ;)

Thats a good idea to use during the game as well.

I did it at ll3, and it was amazing on those long walks back to the hospital/pits ^_^

Look at mikes opening charge video there is one guy infront of him who is going at it with minimal gear. Remember of the initial charge you have to be light to gain ground. Two minutes into the run someone screams out contact!

WHAT THE FUCK?!!?!?!?!?!?!

It says you are on the Empire and you are accessing our forums??????? Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

The guy who started this is on the Empire side, so, in reality, you would be posting on his forum, not the other way around. ;) However, this is the open LL forum, not the secret hidden one.

Ahaha oh wow, I can't believe I mad that mistake... Oh well, that's my blonde moment for the day I guess. Posted Image

Go big or go home lol.

I have been running with flak and boots on, to train my feet and back to get used to carrying weight. I might start carrying a 5-10 lb weight plate in my hand while i am running as well, see if that helps.

Just be sure to carry something and not just use a strap on weight. Carrying it strengthens the hand and arm muscles you use to carry your marker.

I'm going to measure out a quarter mile and start running it every day to see how much time I can shed off. I've never been able to run due to asthma but I figure it's a good time to get over that.

the opening charge is something you need to plan for. You can't expect to be a first responder, wearing a full blown scenario vest, carrying 11 pods and a backup marker.

You need to make sure you are wearing the proper shoes for the hard packed surface (I definitely wouldn't recommend cleats, train runners is the best choice for this), and definitely look at using a 3, MAYBE a 4 pack.

The goal of being a first responder is to gain as much ground from the beginning and establish a scrimmage line as deeply into the other teams side as quickly as possible. Once the paint starts flying everyone ducks for cover. Shoot your paint, move up as aggressively as possible. Two things are going to happen -

1) You get shot out quickly
2) You run out of paint quickly

So the second most important thing is to get off the field as quickly as possible, clean up, air up, reload and THEN carry heavy back to the established scrimmage lines, and start the grind
