A board is the Circit board that is basicly the brains of a marker, or (Paintball Gun). It is what hold the modes and tells it when to shoot when you pull the trigger, Often powered by a 9 volt battery

The only point of upgrading a board is
A. if you have an ion or a gun with a shit board like the ion and is does not have enough tournament legal firing modes
B. If you want to hook your hopper up to your board to kill jams forever
C. If you are a cheater and want cheater modes
that is it buying an oled is too expensive for the benefits and there is not a legal board were you can change the firing modes via just the OLED board.

OLED boards are not "useless". It's just a screen so you can see what mode your gun is. If the extra money for a screen on your gun is worth it, is your decision. Most OLED boards do also add some features as well, like a game timer or something like that, as well as new modes. Many people don't think it is worth it, but don't let what they think sway your opinion. It's your money and your gun. Do what you want.

OLED Boards are kind of a luxary. Once I started using them, I don't think I'll ever go back. I just like how easily programmable they are (Not saying LED boards aren't easy).
