Hey guys. I know that there a few of you on here that are pretty knowledgeable about knives. I'm looking for a pocket knife, blade length around 3-4", pocket clip, one handed opening and durable. I'll be using it mostly for outdoor stuff like backpacking and fishing etc. So it doesn't need to be able to take down a bear. Light is a bous but isn't needed. I'd love to get a buck but they're a little out of my price range. The max I'd want to spend is $50, unless I really need to spend more. I was looking at this one after seeing some good reviews in backpacker magazine. I know spyderco also makes good pcoekts knives. I'm not too knowledgable about knives though. Just want something that will stay sharp and isn't too expensive. Thanks.

Ask sticktodrum he's pretty knowledgable about blades and such. I bought a sword replica from The Last Samuri but sadly I can't help you lmfao

Look at some of Spyderco's knives the Delica would be a good choice or military or yojimbo

If you want a Buck that is a true classic in the knife world look at the Buck 110. A more traditional knife but it is a pure classic among the knife community.

If you want a big blade for slightly ovet $50 check out the Cold Steel Recon 1. i do not like cold steel, but they have their fans.

Others...
Spyderco Endura 4 and Delica. Both are a bit over $50 but they are worth it. Good steel and solid consteuction.

Kershaw Skyline. Walmart normally carries these for around $30.

I could go on forever listing knives around the $50 price point. Go check out bladeforums.com and you will find all kinds of goodies.

One more thing i thought of before i go to sleep. Spyderco has a line of knives using H1 steel. This steel will not rust which is good for outdoor use. A common misconception is that stainless steel means it will not rust. That is completely untrue. Stainless steel avoids stains, not rust. Check out the Spyderco Pacific Salt. Around $65, but they are great.

TOPS has really good stuff but if I had to put my money on a knife I'm going with spiderco. Personally I highly recommend you look into a good multi tool. I literally don't leave the house without my leatherman and its really come onto handy.

Came in here to recommend the Skyline, and someone did it for me. :P
But in all seriousness, the Spyderco Persistence, or the Kershaw Skyline. Possibly the Leek if you don't mind a small handle/grip.

i have never seen a spyderco knife survive a deployment... most of the guys i worked with in afghanistan, including the SF guys, were using gerber auto open/spring assist gerbers (army issue) CRKT folders, or TOPs fixed blades....

my knife collecting right now consists of 3 Dark Ops blades (good knives, but dont suggest them unless you want a knife whoes only real use is combat, either hand to hand or E&E)... a J. Lightning Special Combat RAZR (my favorite fixed blade to date) and my all time favorite edged weapon/tool, TOPs Haket... i have the tactical axe head version because it gives me a couple more cutting edges...

if you want a multi tool, a simple gerber is the way to go... i've got 2 of them that survived afghanistan being beat to shit...

Kershaw Tremor. Big, durable, and the 8CR13MoV is a great steel/steal for 25 bucks. I got one and was skeptical at first, but I intentionally beat my knife to death and its never let me down :) plus the snap of the speedsafe + the size of the blade make people take notice ;)

Edit: and yes its part of kershaws budget/China knives, but quality control and cs is great with these guys

ESEE > TOPS ;)

ESEE charges too much already for 1095 steel, but in my opinion along with many others, Rowen heat treating in the best in the business on 1095 steel. TOPS charges way too much for 1095. Plus some of the designs TOPS comes out with are just ridiculous.

easy choice, either the kershaw skyline or the spyderco tenacious. dont let the whole "tough" or 300 pound lock be the deal breaker because you're never going to be doing anything that extreme. if you ask stick, i guarantee you he is going to say the skyline. cant go wrong with either knives.
