are they necessary for using an optic with FSR? And are there cheaper alternatives to the $60 one Tibby sells?

Aren't they use to basically triangulate there the fsr is going to go? I've heard killjoy has one but I think they are $60 as well. You can always check eBay or other cheap Chinese goods website see if they have any risers there

From my experience they are not necessary, however, they do make your shots easier. I had a hard time getting my mask down close enough to the marker when I had the stock on my t9.1. Without the stock you definitely don't need a riser if you are able to judge distance correctly and have a stable shot. One thing I'm not sure one since I never had the Tiberius riser was if it can be adjusted upwards. All I've ever seen is the adjustment down.

etekgirl,

To answer your original questions:

Are adjustable risers (like the Killjoy or Tiberius) necessary? It depends on how far you plan on shooting. Typical speedball distances, no. As you get farther though, your optic doesn't have enough vertical adjustability (it needs degrees of adjustment vice the typical 'minutes' of adjustment).

There aren't really any cheaper models around. They're fairly specialized for the arcs associated with Paintball/FS rounds so, no other producers(i.e chinese airsoft manufacturers) have gotten in on them. You can find either the Killjoy or the Tiberius model at Rockstar Tactical (I shop there often).

If you make one of your own, you may want to consider the following:

If it's adjustible, you need to be able to consistently adjust it for various, pre-determined ranges.
It needs to be able to support the weight of your optic while holding it's setting in odd positions (i.e. you flip the gun upside down to sling it, etc).
Markers I shoot:
T9.1SD "Totmacher"| Woodstalker Ion MK-II | SP-1 W/Qloader
Reference Threads:
First Strike Field Listing |
External Ballistics Primer

I'm thinking I might just have to go for the Tiberius one. After considering what UV said, I just don't think this is a piece I want to skimp on
