Wait, since when does anybody use the stock browser on an Android? That's similar to the virus thing mentioned earlier. Can Androids get viruses? Yes. Do they? Only if idiots are using it. Does the Android come with a crappy browser? Yes. Does anybody use it? Only the idiots who get viruses on their phones.

Who cares about the stock browser though. using a stock browser is a terrible idea, use 2nd party ones that perform 231516 times better.

Saying the phone is bad because of the stock browser is like saying Windows sucks for the sole reason of Internet Explorer. Is Windows the greatest thing ever? No. Is Internet Explorer the sole reason it's not the greatest thing ever? No. Internet Explorer is so easy to ignore, that it doesn't even factor into why Windows isn't the greatest thing ever. You just use it once to download a decent browser, and then delete all the icons for Internet Explorer that you can find.

The sole fact that everyone does it, does not make it a good idea.

I'd just like to point out that Chrome is now the stock browser for Android.

I see this whole issue as simple as this:

If you want to get a phone to be a status symbol : Get an iPhone.

If you want to get a phone that you are maximizing your dollar to usefulness ratio as much as you can: Get an Android.

The iPhone is based off of an old outdated iOS, with very few actually technically useful updates since the creation of the first iPhone. It's closed source software, so in order to use your phone to its full potential you actually have to void the warranty, which means then if something goes wrong, you can't return it. It is very user friendly, in that it has limited buttons and big colorful bright icons as to not confuse anyone with the ability to reason over 5 years old. It does have a very good screen, again bright and colorful, but they can still break pretty easily (I see more broken iPhone 4's then I see broken Androids). Stock browser is crap, but we've covered that issue. It has quite a few pretty awesome apps, but only very few of them can't be gotten on Android, though they seem to work more consistently for the iPhone (I"ll give them that much). However when you own an iPhone (especially the new one that you just spent 600 + on even though it only made minor changes), people will come up to you and say "Ohhhh is that the new iPhone?" which will you give you a sense of undeserved smugness. Also, still no flash player, but that's for both sides now anyway so whatev's.

The Android is a tech geek's double edged sword. At the best of times, it's an amazing OS, for both tablets and mobile devices. When properly monitored, tweaked and controlled (all of which you can do since Android is open source), it's a power house of technology and will do everything you ask of it and more. When it's at it's worst however it can be a pain in the ass, and you have to fiddle with it to make it reach its full potential. What I like about Android's open source approach to an OS, is that each phone manufacturer can make a UNIQUE experience on their devices, and can change up how things are displayed or what the lay out is, so each phone feels like a new phone, and not just the same phone in a new shell *cough* iPhone *cough*. Granted, some of these manufacturers have created a monstrosity with the OS, an abomination of gadgets and widgets and other useless things that just clutter up your screen (here's looking at you Motorola), but then others make a nice, sublime interface thats easy for grandma to use as her first smart phone, but allows people like me to get into the meat and potatoes of the phone and really tweak it to our liking. Screens are usually pretty durable, especially those with Gorilla Glass. Has a few more buttons then an iPhone (read: more then one), but only a couple models seem to have totally useless buttons. Screens are snappy and responsive, and you can tweak the brightness generally (or they have auto sensing brightness like the Samsung Galaxy S II). Stock browser is crap (again, already covered). App's seem to have issues from different phones and need to be tweaked, but they are starting to fix that issue by making it all more streamlined. The Android OS itself is still in it's infancy, and there will be many more iterations of OS to be updated and put on phones, and I am pretty excited to see what they come up with. I have had 5 OS's on my phone, (Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, Froyo, Honey Comb and Gingerbread) because each one had features I liked and didn't like. But thats whats cool about it, is I can change it up based on what I like, and I'm not shoehorned into some OS that I am not a huge fan of. No longer supports flash which is a bummer.

As for those saying "Mac's can't get viruses, herpty derpty", you do know the reason why right? Windows is used for large corporations, fortune 500 companies and the like, where as Mac is used in a more "creative setting" for graphic designers, music making etc....which one do you think has more money/financial records on their devices? Probably the Fortune 500 companies, right? Well what do banks use? Window's takes it again. So why would someone who is comitting an illegal act to steal money/information in a hostile digital attack, waste their time trying to crack into a machine that is used solely to make electro house music? Where would be the financial gain? No one is going to develop a virus to steal stuff off of Mac's because no one who uses Mac's at their work, has any thing worthwhile to a hacker to steal.

So yeah. That.

Couldn't agree more. I hate manufacturer skins, they're absolutely awful. I also hate the amount of devices coming out.

Apples release frequency of one model a year works great for consumers, but terrible for progress. Androids release frequency is terrible for consumers, but great for progress.

With Apple, you know you are only missing one generation of phone until you can renew your contract and get a new iPhone. With Android, you renew, get the latest and greatest but in 2 months there's already something better out. It's very frustrating. I got my gnexus when it was the greatest thing ever, but now I want one of the newwer more powerful phones. I wish moto, Samsung and HTC would all just release the best they have every 6 months so I don't feel like what I'm buying will be obsolete in 2 months.

Really, all I want is a phone that is stock android, no manufacturer skins, Good camera, solid build quality (this is where I feel android lacks the most), unlocked bootloader, decent battery.

There's other factors. Battery life is huge. iPhone battery life is reasonable. Durability and repairs; iPhones at least can always be repaired at many places, often locally. Apps seem well tested before released on iPhones.

However Droids are so much cheaper.
