Im looking into a cheap-ish intermediate paintball gun and I have narrowed it down to these two: the G4 and the Proton. Now i need some feedback.

Why does it have to be about looks?

I would play with a piece of poo if it got 20 pods off of a 50/4500 and was the quietest and most consistent marker out there.

As would anyone, but I want a gun that appeals to me visually.

Then get the Reflex. The Proton is just a Mokal Aura :tdn:. The G4 is a risk of hit or miss.

Best budget marker currently available under $350 is the GoG eXTCy or the Proto Rail. Check out my Comparison Review and maybe you'll like either or more.

Otherwise,
If you are already looking into $500 range you should also take a look at the Etha, Etek 4, and Axe. Or if you want a spool then yes the Reflex seems like a good choice.

Also, as per REDCOBRA refurbished Proto Rail's are going for $180 on eBay.

G4 by a mile. I have one it works fine i have no bolt stick or any other problems, im also the third owner. The bolt stick only happens because the board comes stock with ABS off and DP uses a thick lube. If you set the ABS to 3 then you'll have no first shot drop off or bolt stick(the stock setting is 4, 1 = 1 millisecond extra, 2 = 2 millisecond extra, and 3 = 3 millisecond extra) , also ClEAN the gun regularly and you won't have any problems those who do usually say, "Well i haven't lubed it or opened it up for 3 months idk why its not working." If you service it it WILL work. The G4 also comes with a phenomenal asa the raps is very easy to use and works much faster and better than a screwin on/off. A proton comes with a claper-noid like that in a SPIDER. The proton also is set up differently. It has a macroline-less design so the reg is in the grip frame and the board is in the foregrip thing (not sure what to call it since its not a reg) like a mini. I've never had a mini so i don't know if its more difficult to service a reg thats in the grip frame but I would assume so.

I have used a g4 for the past 2 years and have had nothing but problems. Bolt stick, bad solenoid, frequently broken orings. I would not recommend this gun. I do not have any experience with the valken proton but i am sure that the g4 is a poor choice. Hope I could help.
