That brings back some college memories. I had a '92 Integra, a GS coupe with a 5-speed. Great car till someone sideswiped it while it was parked.

Driving my dad's Scirocco R this weekend, just had it out on a B road. I love that car, it goes like a rocket in the corners.

Anyone have any suggestions for my next vehicle?

Wants list:

Larger than my car - So, smaller SUV/Crossover/Wagon; potentially.
MUST be AWD or 4wd - Its going to be a daily, but also needs to be capable in heavy snow and minor offroad (mostly trails)
Most brands are acceptable, but quality is prefered
I'm most likely not going to buy brand new (only suckers do)
Price - <30,000

Was looking at Jeep, Subie, Mitsu, VW, Audi, Mazda

lol GO

Toyota fj, or jeep wrangler are best off road but suck back fuel. Less about off road better fuel and comfort look at maybe ford escapes or the new mazda cx 5.

Personally I have never had issues getting anywhere in the snow and most my life I drove rwd pickups. But if all ya really worried about is snow driving subarus do very well. Audi has a good awd platform but most of there offerings sit quite low and can suffer in deep snow a bit. If you really want euro best bet I think would be the VW Tigun.

Personally find my current Toyota Tacoma 4x4 to be damn near cheating in the snow lol. Thing can crawl threw anything but mine is only an ex cab with the 2.7l 4 banger and a 5 speed stick. Not a ton of room inside but decent on fuel for a pickup.

Main reason I want AWD for the snow is that I quite literally live in the mountains. lol

In the summer, its downhil biking, hiking, camping and fishing. In the winter it's snowboarding, ice fishing, and snow mobiiling. Gotta get to that fresh powder, and even with winters, it can get damn hard to get around after 50+cm of snow every other week. haha

Soo.. since you all are car people.. and some are mods/admins... would it be rude, crude, and socially unethical to post a manual transmission vs. Automatic transmission thread? Its like the spool vs. Poppit debate.. but with vehicles... and it couldn't possibly be any more useless than some threads I've come across.

99% of people are going to tell you manual. I for one agree, except I hate clutches... So, I prefer dual-clutch systems (PDK/DSG/DCT). Faster shift times, and subsequently less power loss while still having control over the gearing.

probably ok, but idk why you want the opinion of techpb. go to car forum and see what they think.

no clutch petal no care is my opinion. but then i am a driver first, and care only about the driving experience itself, and no automatic, even dual clutches, can capture the feel of an engine like a good old manual can. lap times be damned. heel toe shifting is an art.

Honestly, neither one is better than the other, as they both serve different purposes. For something like drag racing, an automatic is ideal. With a reverse manual valve body and a ratchet shifter, an automatic will upshift much quicker than somebody with a clutch pedal to deal with. And with a trans brake, an automatic can launch off the line much quicker than someone driving stick.

Standard shift is ideal for just about everything else, though. I also find it more fun, but that's opinion.

I prefer a manual transmission just because it is more fun. Paddle shifters don't replicate the feeling of nailing a perfect shift. Automatics lack the direct feeling that manuals have.

What year and model? Tell me noah!

I love the 944 to death.

Also, manual FTW, I need my clutch to be honest.

So, if I want to stiffen up my suspension and get more responsive steering.
How much work am I looking at?

I'd say it will be somewhat labor intensive, but if you have a proper jack or lift it's not too bad. I haven't done a whole lot with steering boxes, so I really can't comment on that aspect.

depends on the car. and what you mean by stiffining up. if you just mean some bushings thats cheap but labor intensive, if you want stiffer springs or something, that could get a lot more expensive really fast.
