LLVI, First Strike Rounds - What's the policy?
13 January 2013 - 04:29 PM
I gave the sub-forum a look over and I haven't seen this particular question answered:
How will FS Rounds be handled at Living Legends Six? Field Paint Only, BYO, etc?
As long as they are at least allowed, I will be pleased. -
How much are you paying for FPO FS rounds?
09 January 2013 - 09:08 PM
Just like the title says? How much are you expected to pay for FS rounds ion fields that sell them and require Field Paint Only?
If you are seeing different prices at different locations, please click multiple answers.
If your local fields don't allow FS rounds or, they allow you to bring your own, it'd be better if you didn't respond to the poll. -
Minimalist (near barefoot) Combat Boots
03 January 2013 - 04:05 PM
Just passing this along for woodsballers interested in minimalist footware.
Apparently, Belleville Boot (long time combat/tactical boot manufacturer) has released a minimalist (5mm drop) tactical boot called the TR10*.

Given their published stats (below) it appears that the photo may be a little deceiving when it comes to the sole thickness. I suspect (I don't have a pair yet myself) that the sides actually come up a bit much like my Vivobarefoot Ra's (minimalist oxford).
Presently, they're selling in Black (TR102) and Tan (TR101), and Sage Green (like the U.S. Air Force boots, TR103). Onto the stats:
- A true minimalist boot with a 5 millimeter “drop”
- Exclusive Vibram® “Tarsus” oil and slip resistant rubber
- Highly breathable unlined leather & nylon upper
- Double & triple stitched seams for enhanced durability
- Padded Achilles support
- 8” height
- Less than 2lbs per pair
The only question I have is 'how wide is the toe box?' When I first got into barefoot style footware (I have running and working shoes now), I tried the Nike Free line and they felt to narrow in the toe, so I expect that the Nike SFBs are similar as well as having too much EVA. - A true minimalist boot with a 5 millimeter “drop”

The exit velocity of a compressed air cannon
19 September 2012 - 06:50 PM
Quote
The use of compressed air cannons in an undergraduate lab provides a way to illustrate the
cooperation of diverse physics concepts, such as conservation of momentum, the work-kinetic en-
ergy theorem, expansion of gas, air drag, and elementary Newtonian mechanics. However, recent
proposals have disagreed as to whether the expansion of the gas in the cannon should be modeled
as an adiabatic or an isothermal process.
Quote
In conclusion, we have shown that both the adiabatic and isothermal expansion models
are not consistent with our data. A gas flow model that accounts for the valve is in much
better agreement with the data. This is because the assumption of both the adiabatic and
isothermal models that the air pressure in the reservoir is the same as the pressure in the
barrel is dicult to meet given the necessity of using a valve to pressurize the reservoir. We
now have a way to predict exit velocity as a function of initial tank pressure, which will be
useful in the development of future undergraduate labs utilizing compressed air cannons.

Premium Membership Problem
01 August 2012 - 10:12 AM
Slinky is already aware of the following. I'm posting for increased visibility, in case there's another admin who can assist me.
On the 3rd of July, I received a bill for my Premium Membership, even though I had volunteerily renewed my membership via paypal (I can PM the transaction ID) in November of 2011.
Since the 27th (at least that's when I noticed it), I can no longer access the member's area.
